Julia Gillard says she was bowled over by the support she received when she became the first woman to serve as Australia's acting Prime Minister.Ms Gillard first took up the role a little more than a year ago when Kevin Rudd travelled to Bali for climate change talks.
She has told ABC2's News Breakfast she was unprepared for the public's reaction when she first stepped into the role.
"I sort of understood, I guess, in my head that that was an important thing, but on the time that I first did it, when Kevin went to Bali to sign Kyoto, the sort of reaction from women really bowled me over," she said.
