A 16month old Baby Approves of President Elect-Mr. Obama

That is the ultimate success, getting approval from those who see goodness. (probably the reason many politicians go around kissing babies) ;-) They are honest in their reactions.

This pod combines one baby Kiran's daily interaction in her environment & how she learns & processes information with how she is developing to think on her own.

During the Nov 2008 thanksgiving weekend my parents & i were watching my niece for bit (my brother & sis in law had just moved back to CA from TX )& I was saying something about leaders & said the word president, my niece Kiran who was 15 months old cutely said 'Obama' we were like woh that came out of nowhwere-she spoke bits & pieces(hungy, sleep, no, hi, amma, thatha) then we asked her who is the president to no response from her. she would smile laugh, say other words that could be understood & some that couldn't be understood but she would not respond when we asked who is the president. Then the next day, my brother turned on the tv & it was some program on Pres. elect Obama, & there was only a picture of him on him on a plate. My niece gleefully points to screen & yells 'Obama' because obviously she recognized him. That was cool.

As we are supporters of Mr. Obama & team, & being a short film maker, I couldn't help but do some taping to get a documentary glimpse of how babies process information & learn from their surroundings. Even to see if it was a fluke or did she really know her own little mind. Humans have a certain degree of intuition, retention, and analytical skills & I think that she knows he is a good person too like most of us did. She is very bright & wants to learn, it is cool to have an active mind. My brother & sis-in-law wants to giver her a good education & guidance for her to make great choices in the future.

An instance of inquisitiveness from her: when we take her pic, she wants the camera & she calls it & takin pics 'pictchi' & reaches for it. I gave her a camera that does not work anymore, she tries to emmulate our action, then realize it is a non working cam, 'she doesn't fall for any BS' & she reaches for my working camera. She is learning to listen and to communicate.

As I finish editing this(yesterday)with pointers from BV(i started to learn in depth video editing end of October 08- to speed up putting together some of our shows, caus BV's time was limited & he was learning it himself for class & there was much footage for other stories we want to feature.So know how it takes a bit to process new information)

She is 16 months old(1 year & 4 months) her mind is developing & processing new info pretty fast but she is still a baby. She calls me nandi which means the aunt who isher dad's sister. She calls her mom's sisters punchi. like a true sri lankan-american she is learning to speak in both american-english & sinhala(maybe we'll teach her some tamil words too).

Her name (Kiran) has origins in Sanskrit to means 'a ray of light'.
When we do our pieces, we like to add symbolism & metaphors in form of images, text or
verbage.
