According to the book "Hair India - A Guide to the Bizarre Beards and Magnificent Moustaches of Hindustan," the mustaches which have been a proud cultural symbol of India are being trimmed as the country begins to grow more urban.Author Richard McCallum says that younger men are being more clean shaven following in the steps of their idols & role models in Bollywood and Cricket, in which the star or the sportsman have almost no facial hair among themselves.
According to the proud owner of a handle bar mustache, Lalan Singh, 40, a restaurant doorman in Delhi's Connaught Place said, "Young people don't want an itchy moustache or beard which they think makes them look old."
