Doctor in Gaza: Patients 'lying everywhere'

Image...
Gaza's main hospital, already full of Palestinians wounded in the week-long Israeli air assault, reached critical mass on Sunday, according to a Norwegian doctor volunteering at Shifa Hospital.

"We've had a steady stream [of patients] every day, but the last 24 hours has [brought] about triple the number of cases," Dr. Erik Fosse told CNN. "So this day has been extremely busy."

Fosse said he estimated that about 30 percent of the casualties at Shifa Hospital on Sunday were children, both among the dead and the wounded.

The increase in casualties at Shifa followed Israel's's ground incursion into Gaza, which it launched on Saturday night. Fosse said 50 patients were "severely wounded" when an Israeli airstrike hit a food market in Gaza City. Video Watch Palestinians describe fearful life in Gaza »

"We were operating in the corridors, patients were lying everywhere, and people were dying before they got treatment," he said.

Palestinian medical officials said Israeli forces have killed 37 Palestinians -- both civilians and militants -- since moving into the territory Saturday night. With those deaths, at least 485 Palestinians, including about 100 women and children, have been killed since the military operation began more than a week ago, officials said.

In addition, 2,600 Palestinians have been injured, most of them civilians, officials said.
Most of the casualties are a result of the airstrikes that preceded Saturday night's ground incursion. Shifa is the main hospital in Gaza City. Other hospitals were unable to treat the wounded because of a shortage of supplies and staff.

THERE MUST BE THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE CURRENT ENVIRONMENT AS A UNIQUE SCENARIO and then the WILLINGNESS FOR SELF CHANGE.

NLT IN THE SEARCH FOR ANSWERS

Non-Linear Thinking (NLT) is perhaps a complex description of what is intended to be a “simple” thought process to help identify unconventional BUT PRACTICAL solutions to seemingly complex problems that remain a dilemma.

The origin and genesis Of Non Linear Thinking clearly lies within “Lateral Thinking” – a term coined by Dr. Edward D. Bono who called it amongst other definitions an “Insight tool”. Today “Lateral Thinking” is in the Oxford Dictionary as part of our vocabulary & has been responsible for giving a tangibility to the thinking process.

Non-Linear thinking however is not intended to be intellectually revolutionary, as is lateral thinking because it does not have the intent or the capability to formalize its concept as a teaching. It is positioned merely as a holistic resource available FOR every decision maker to use, wherever complexity is perceived.

The application logic is based on Dr. Bono's definitions of Lateral thinking which is differentiated from Vertical thinking (Referred to as Linear Logic in this writing, and what we may be referred to a conventional thinking or sequential logic)

AS described by Dr. Bono :-

    QUOTE:

    · In Conventional or Vertical Thinking – the thinking moves only if there is a direction.

    · In Lateral thinking the thought process moves in order to “generate” a direction.

    END QUOTE

Lateral Thinking was professed as a need by Dr Bono in the 1960's by Dr. Bono for the West and their progressive economies. It was clearly TOO early, because as a concept it has greater affinity with EASTERN TRADITIONAL THINKING. While the EAST is still busy adopting Western thinking norms; the usage of Lateral thinking is increasingly becoming more and more common in the developed World. A paradox since it SHOULD come naturally to us in ASIA !!

Though globally “out of the box thinking” became a buzzword in the 1980's- the creative elite hijacked “lateral thinking”, and classified it in linear terms as a unique and creative skill best suited to ‘right brained thinkers'. The normal and common person had been excluded DESPITE the fact that Lateral Thinking should be the natural way of thinking.

It has therefore been segmented & positioned so as to be perceived as OUT OF THE BOX/ OUT OF REACH OF NORMAL THINKING!! This was clearly NOT the INTENDED goal of Dr Bono who has implemented in 100,s of schools. His lectures and their positioning (by marketers) have however continued to refer to LT as unique and a popular reading for UNUSUAL INNOVATIVE thinking!!

Non-Linear Thinking is intended here to be a simple need based thought process that can help EVOLVE CREATIVE SOLUTIONS BASED ON SELF REVEALING INDICATORS. It is intended to emphasize always that NLT requires LESSER SKILLS & it is assumed that with self-training it can be a very basic tool available to ALL within the majority.

In principal it requires the mental willingness to train and curb the reflex of our sequential thinking

THERE MUST BE THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE CURRENT ENVIRONMENT AS A UNIQUE SCENARIO and then the WILLINGNESS FOR SELF CHANGE.

It is generally needed when there is acknowledgement of uncertainty and complexity and can be applied by those who ACCEPT that the current output and yield from their old inputs, (which were successful) have now started to fall or become NON LINEAR!

Those who are in denial of need for self change or seek a return of the “good old days” would not benefit from NLT.

Are Cluster Bombs Falling on Gaza Today?
    http://oxdown.firedoglake.com/diary/2777

There’s more evidence today of Israeli use of cluster bombs, originally noted by Laura Doty at Oxdown. The Times of London features a photo in it’s coverage (see Gaza Conflict slide show) with the following description: An artillery round sends out bomblets above Gaza City, which continues to be attacked by Israeli forces

The use of cluster bombs - which have a large footprint when initially dropped and then remain a threat for decades - in a location like the Gaza Strip which is so packed with people is horrifying. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cluster_bomb

Nothing in that video proves that the man was using the child as a human shield - it looks much more like the man grabbing the child to take him to safety, in fact.
