AP: Israeli Offensive only 13% are civilian deaths

Image...
Most wars have between 30-60% civilians Deaths. In Gaza offensive by Israel, only 13% are civilians. That is an amazingly low numbers and speaks volumes about the morality and character of the Israeli army. Bravo Israel! Amazing, truely amazingly good.

"Since the ground assault began, 64 Palestinian civilians have been killed, said Dr. Moaiya Hassanain, a Health Ministry official. The new deaths brought the death toll in the Gaza Strip to more than 512 since Dec. 27. The tally is based on figures from the U.N. and Palestinian health officials as well as a count by The Associated Press."

That's 13% civilians deaths and 87% hamas terrorists. Those are AMAZINGLY low numbers of civilian casualties, and the actual number is actually lower because, as the Time of London reported, Hamas has told it's terrorists to take off their uniforms to avoid being targeting.

It's quite clear Israel is targeting hamas (87%) and the arabs are targeting israeli civilians (rockets launched at cities).

How sad that political rivals must resort to declaring each other terrorists and refuse to negotiate. This is exactly what is happening here between Israel and Hamas. Both act as terrorists against all. Their unrelenting feud continues to fuel the engines of terror in the world at large. People are fearful of what the latest war will lead to; another world engulfing conflict? Nuclear war?

It might be 13%, it might be 20%, it does show that Israel is using smart, precision weapons. They're not perfect, but will reliably hit within 10 meters of their intended target. Most are dead on. This allowed the Israelis to hit known targets. The problem is, in this urban type environment 10 meters is sometimes not close enough to avoid collateral damage. My heart goes out to the dead and innocent 13%, but the civilian population that elected Hamas has some culpability. Israel has a right to defend its citizens and territory.

and compare the incredible innacuracy of the Hamas "guided" rockets and mortars, please...

i deplore all deaths... all sides, both sides.... whatever.

but when Israel gets hit by basically random shelling and responds with phone calls saying "get out.. we're going to attack," and then attacks with practically surgical precision... give me a break. it's not exactly "the same thing" as wanton shelling of civilians.

You think you own your house. I come along and say "no, it's mine!" Should we negotiate and split your house 50/50? Of course not.

Just because there are two sides, it doesn't not mean you have any basis to negotiate.

13% civilian deaths is good now?

What is the definition of a civilian death in this case, anyway? We know that Gaza's economy was tanked to the point that many were working as Hamas employees without necessarily agreeing with the ideologies, because there were no other jobs to be had, period. I guess none of those people count as civilians.

Any number of civilian deaths is wrong, and Israel's excessive use of force is wrong. These numbers need to be taken in context. Many non-"civilians" who died were also innocent.

How many deaths on each side? Last I heard, it was way more than 13%. NYT reports 500 deaths, with at least 100 being civilians. That's 20% according to my math. Meanwhile, only one Israeli soldier and four other Israelis were killed by Hamas's rocket attacks. Let's compare - 500 deaths, 100 of which were civilians, to 4 total Israeli deaths.

I see nothing in the source article you posted that claims 13%. Why don't you tell us where you are really getting that number?

Hey, with all this war going on, it's opening some prime real estate in the Antartic. Maybe the Israelis and Palestians can split it....oh.

A Palestinian girl cries during the funeral of a relative that was killed in an Israeli air strike in Beit Lahiya, northern Gaza Strip, Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009. Israeli ground troops and tanks cut swaths through the Gaza Strip early Sunday, cutting the coastal territory into two and surrounding its biggest city as the new phase of a devastating offensive against Hamas gained momentum.

I thought I'd post some actual images from the AP article instead of photos of Israeli troops that came from other sources.

    I can't believe what i am reading!
Only 13%, that makes about 60 dead civilians as today, without counting the 2500 injured as amputed children, for what?
Not even talking the humanitarian desastre coming up!

How can you rejoice such figures, specially the sources is quite contestable!

    This is absolutely shocking!

It's not shocking if you hate. So I suppose since only 19 Israelis have been killed in three years, that's good to her too. This post is a clear example of the true hate that will never bring peace. For what indeed.

yeah and america is not responsible for the 50,000 civilian deaths in vietnam or the 190,000 killed in hiroshima and nagasaki. right...

its bull shit you could justify even one civilian deaths. put it in perspective out of 100 people you are killing 13 innocent ones. does that not fucking disturb you?

A death is a death, no matter which side it's from. The killing has to end on both sides.

    Why glorify war??

Does it make sense to kill one innocent person to save 100,000 lives? What about killing one person to save 10 people? Where do you draw the line? Once you open the door that killing is justified, you've already crossed the line.

Regardless of the fact that 13% are civilians which can be debated based on what media outlet you ask, the issue is that innocent people on both sides are dying as a result of both sides firing at eachother. Im sure no one would like to be part of that 13% so either way its not really any true progress in making the Arab-Israeli conflict resolved in any way.

The UN came out and said that their conservative estimate is that 25% are women and children... Conservative. And not including the innocent men in the area. The conditions are so bad that doctors are performing surgeries without anesthesia because no aide is allowed through... How can anyone possible argue that this was a good thing?

I am horrified to see someone justifying the murder of innocent people while celebrating the actions of those responsible.

    This is sickening.

All you have to do is look at the pictures coming out of Gaza. 13% or not it is horrible, absolutely horrible.

The only reason statistics like this are even put out is to depersonalize this whole situation. Screw statistics.
