Republicans threaten to Filibuster the seating of Franken

Sen. John Cornyn renewed on Monday a threat that Republicans will filibuster if the Senate attempts to seat Democrat Al Franken as the senator from Minnesota without a final certification from the state, which will not be available until all court challenges by the former Republican holder of that seat, Norm Coleman, have been exhausted.

Franken, who leads after the recount by 225 votes, is expected to be certified the winner when Minnesota's State Canvassing Board convenes at 2:30 this afternoon. That certificate would normally be signed within a week by the governor and secretary of state. However, under Minnesota law it cannot be signed until all court challenges by the Coleman campaign have been resolved, and the rules of the Senate prohibit Franken from being seated without the signed certificate.

There's nothing more pathetic than a sore loser, much less a whole political party full of cheaters and sore losers.

Suprise suprise! If they can't steal it they will try to prevent the winner from taking the seat.
They always think they are priviledged to steal with impunity, as in 2000. The stealing mentality is what caused the investment bank pigs to think they could do as they wish regardless of what it did to our economy.

If you don't think that Senator Coleman is in on every step taken by the G.O.P. to prevent Al Franken from getting that prize seat,...think again.
As with most career politicians, what Norm says and what Norm does are two different things.

This just affirms Vito Corleones statement " 1 lawyer with a briefcase can steal more than 10 thugs with guns"
WAAH!...We stole the election fair & square...It's not right to insist on giving The People of Minnesota the Person They actually voted for as Senator !!! (I'm making sarcastic pro-Repugnantblican noises here, for those of You who aren't familiar with My Political leanings) Go AL !!!
Now, if only President Obama would appoint Bill Maher & Montel Williams to Cabinet posts !...(actually NOT being sarcastic about that !)

It has taken then two months to recount all of these ballots and not the republicans want to draw this out another three to four months. However, did anyone catch around 2.30 where he stated, 'It is important for the country to have checks and balances on that power... that is at least part of the foundation of country'. where was this rational when they were in power and gave, along with some dems, the proverbial 'blank check' to do what ever he wanted.

Anyone know what if any of the remaining "court challenges" are worth a shit?

I mean, are these legitimate court challenges over serious recount issues that could legitimately impact the recout vote by over 300 votes....or are the remaining "challenges" just bullshit stalling tactics?

Hopefully a judge can just throw those "challenges" out with the same speed they toss out any lawsuit issued against Haliburton or KBR.

they already had a recount of every vote. what is the republicans problem?

and this is nothing like the '00 and '04 debacle. those elections didn't have a full recount...

I don't care how close the vote is, a majority is a majority. The people have spoken! And aren't Republicans supposed to be against government overreaching its authority? They are only delaying the inevitable and making themselves look foolish. I guess they think their temper tantrums will be permitted because they lost the Presidential race.

Surely the irony of this escapes no reasonably intelligent
individual. The party that has made an absolute mockery of democracy with the shameful theft of the 2000 election now has the balls to cry foul? If another country held a presidential election and the outcome of that election was decided by the state that was governed by the candidates brother, and the recount was halted by that candidates party members on the high court...we would call B.S....we would not recognize that election as legitimate....particularly if the 'winner" freely acknowledged that his opponent won the popular vote. I seriously wonder if Dwight D. Eisenhower would even recognize his party today...from a party of intelligent men and women with education and principles..to this bunch of deceitful, knuckle dragging racists they have devolved into. They have made open claims to try and derail our republic with the openly admitted desire to create a permanent Republican hegemony as stated by Newt Gingrich and Tom DeLay. The combined efforts of Nixon with his enemy lists, Reagan and his shameful under the table deals with Iran and the central American death squads, and now Bush/Cheney ...has reduced our once mighty economy to the hollowed out shell that it is now,... our once invincible army is spent....
they have so squandered our 200 year old reputation as a nation that didn't torture or initiate wars of aggression that now, our long term international allies distance themselves from us...the republican party has done more damage to our nation from within than our most powerful enemies have been unable to do from without.

John Cornyn is a horrible joke.

We had six years of Bushit/Shamey and GOP Rule and look what they did to us.

Now they are being obstructionist when that is the last thing this country needs.

There should be a law against the racist classist elitist GOP domination of this country for far too long.

At what point will the Republicans realize that the childish and ridiculous actions are exactly what turned Americans against them in the polls.
