Israel looks to drive Hamas completely out of Gaza

Israeli intelligence and military officials are increasingly pushing for the assault on Gaza to continue until it assures the eventual downfall of Hamas amid assertions that the 10 days of military bombardment have crippled the Islamist party's ability to govern.

This sounds alittle like the "other" War on Terror. Maybe, they should ask Bush about how his Iraq war is going? Mission Accomplished........5 years ago.

They wont stop until they eliminate ALL Palestinians. Israel is conducting the biggest one time genocide in history....news just in, they just hit ANOTHER school with a missile-direct hit- being used as a shelter-a place the Israeli government told the people to go to get out of the way-more than 60 people killed...murdered...

I wonder how this will all turn out. It seems that these people will never be able to settle their differences. Violence never resolves anything, it just results in more hate and more enmity.

I wonder if I will live to see peace between Israel and the Palestinians before the day I die...

This is very sad, if it is indeed true. Pals, for all of their terrorism and behavior that ultimately causes the hand that feeds them to smack them (Israel) don't deserve to be "killed off." I wouldn't call this genocide WorldPeaceTV, its a little too early to be throwing around terms meaning the extinction of a race. That is just making the forum for debate inflamed.

War is never pretty. I'm sure everyone can agree with that, but when you look at this war... what i personally see is two parties who are too stubborn to cooperate with one another. There will always be victims when it comes to war... but something needs to be done. In their case... someone needs to outnumber their opponents to "settle the case" so to speak. I guess all we can do is just watch those two parties go at it with one another since they can't even talk to one another.

How DARE anyone accuse the Israeli's of genocide?

In war there are casualties, and Israel does everything possible to fight their war without killing civilians. Hamas, a group of terrorist thugs, hide behind women and children and love when they get killed because it creates sympathy for their cause. There is footage of Hamas soldiers using children as human shields on this very site. It is difficult to fight a war against an enemy that is indistinguishable from the civilians it hides amongst, and Israel does the best it can. They, and the USA, intentionally fight wars with 1 hand tied behind their own backs, using only a fraction of their military capability, If Israel wanted to blow all Palestinians to smitherines, they could have done it a matter of hours.

So far, a couple hundred civilians have been killed. This does not come close to the 6,000,000 Jews killed by the Nazis during the Holocaust. A million more were killed during various pogroms throughout Eatsern Europe and Russia. For anyone to compare this military conflict to the Holocaust or suggest that Hitler was correct is disgusting and racist. We complain about casualties of war but forget how many people died in WW2.

72 MILLION people died in WW2- 47 MILLION of them civilians. So as much as war sucks, these are limited military operations by historical standards. Even the entire "War on Terror" has had extremely limited casualties (on both sides) by historical standards, because the US, like Israel, does what it can to be surgical against enemy fighters and not civilians. So a lot of you need to get a grip on the realities of war and the death toll that can be involved.

Wars are fought. Civilians die. This particular conflict has been going on for 90 years and the Jews have accepted every offer of a 2-state peace deal since the early 20th century. The Palestinians have always refused to accept ANY 2 state solution that would lead to peace. Instead, they have turned to racism and terrorism, electing murderers to lead them and turn their precious children into bombs. That's a big difference between the 2 sides that alot of you ignore, mostly because you are ignorant, racist, or both.

I fear the passions involved are detrimental to serious discourse

it is like a vortex that sucks in otherwise reasonable individuals and spits out raving lunatics

and yes I am willing to accept that I may not be immune to this vortex of passion....

Belief in any singular, exclusionary idea is detrimental to the future of humanity- for example, religion.

Does Israel seriously think they can start settlement again by doing this?

    Are they completely insane?

Why do they even WANT Gaza?

    Saladin
  •

They don't want Gaza. They want "regime change". I believe their aim is to eliminate Hamas, not occupation or settlement. Unfortunately, I don't believe they can achieve this. Instead, Israel will pull out and Hamas will probably be bolstered by even more popular support- not just in Gaza but the West Bank as well. Then more rockets, and the cycle continues. I truly believe that if the Palestinian people would reject terror as a strategy and embrace a 2 state solution they would find a very willing peace partner in Israel. Disagree?

    chillmonkey5000
  •

Disagree. The reason being is because there have been several tries at a two-state settlement, the biggest opponents of which have been Israel and the U.S.

The PLO and all other major players, including Hezbollah ,in the middle-eastern conflict have accepted and are willing to recognize Israel, even if they were slow on the uptake to do so, and yet Israel still uses self-defense as a reason for continued occupational and regional dominance by force.

Where do you get your facts?

Please provide any unbiased proof of your claim that it was Isreal and not the Palestinians who turned down every peace plan ever offered throughout history. I can point you to Wikipedia. Link attached.

they claim this is to drive Hamas completely out of Israel, but by targeting homes, schools and mosques, their actions say otherwise. this is a humanitarian crisis.

One thing is to Love those that Hate you, another thing is to Help them commit their Crimes.

god, people love to fingerpoint here. Lets clarify: Israel is not a colony its a country. Israel has never stated it wanted to "Push the Palestinians into the sea." Palestinians have been behind some of the most destructive acts of terrorism in history (American marine barracks bombing, Munich Olympic disaster, Jordanian terrorism etc.) Israel supplies Palestinians with just about everything, including water, power, and food. (Until the blockade) Palestinians, given a chance at showing the world that they are respectable, and Israel giving them an opportunity for growth, allowed democratic elections and the installation of a government. They elected a terrorist org that's motto is the destruction of the Jewish invaders. Recognition of Israel is not existent.

I don't support heavy-handed mayhem by a clearly more powerful country, and the loss of INNOCENT life (women who do nothing but voice hatred as opposed to using weapons, and children who are too young know better) is a wretched by-product of violent conflicts in super-populated regions. But they had it coming and Hamas, Hizbollah, the Arab leaders, Iran, and the western powers all knew this. This perfect for the Palestinians, they garner international sympathy from people who are not fully aware of the political dilemma and that is powerful leverage; good strategy when they lose face-to-face.

Why isnt' Hamas allowing the Palestinian people to get to the aid trucks?

    iameam
  •

This is all over! Hamas sells the aid to the people, not allowing it to get to them. And then using the money to buy more weapons and cause further escalations.
