Bush designates ocean conservation areas (not a joke)

Image...
George Bush will designate nearly 200,000 square miles of the Pacific Ocean as conservation areas on Tuesday, recasting his record on the environment just two weeks before leaving the White House.

Tuesday's formal announcement will establish Bush as the leader who has protected more of the oceans than anyone else in the world, environmentalists said.

Drill Baby Drill!!! What about our Oceans, here at home??

He has some ulterior motive in this. Bush doesn't give a damn about preserving anything of nature....except his own ass.

Too little too late - putz. How dare you insult global environmental efforts with this gesture after selling (out) mining rights in some of America's most pristine & protected public lands to the highest bidders for private gain during the last 8 years.

Regardless of the politics of it, I'm happy to hear about the ocean conservation. It needs to happen.

Maybe the Oil companies lost their interest in the president, so he can do as he wishes. Maybe he would like to equalize his record before he leaves office. After all a presidential library has to show some good things a president did. Hitler build Eaglesnest thousands have visited since WW II beside other Icons of Nationalism.

there has to be a clause in there for drilling or something. They have a thing for putting a wolf to guard the chicken coop, it really is a joke at this point. Sorry but the administrations policies are walking irony. ie: No Child Left Behind act, the Clean Skies act, the Patriot Act, etc

Its funny now but if anything called the "free american act" were to be passed, then I would be pretty spooked.

    from the article:
But the marine reserves were as much a gift from Laura Bush, who was credited with heading off determined opposition from the vice-president, Dick Cheney, as well as business leaders in the Mariana Islands who had lobbied on behalf of fishing and energy exploration.

White House officials, in a conference call with reporters, described three distinct areas: the Mariana Islands in the western Pacific, a chain of remote islands in the central Pacific, and the Rose Atoll off American Samoa.

Wait for it....Wait for it......The punchline here is that most Americans will never see this part of the world. It's closer to Australia than it is to HI. Aaah, bushed, again!

This Ocean was already protected. what bush did was take it out of the hands of the people that have been caring for it for many years and understand the delicate balance and give it to the federal government and new organizations that bush just created. He also wants to make it a tourist attraction, Now Land is being bought up for hotels which raises the land value and makes it harder for the local people to purchase due to the inflated price. The Local people also lose there native fishing ground which is most of the economy. BOO BUSH!!!

And how many hundreds of thousands of miles did his policies destroy in eight years. He gets no praise from me in using this to try to make himself a false legacy. It does nothing to offset the midnight rules he has just put in place to continue to destroy this environment to fill the coffers of his benefactors. Has he even made a statement about one of the biggest environmental disasters to ever happen in this country? There were also already protections in place for our oceans. He is the one who weakened much of them to begin with. But he will get praise even after all he has done. And I can bet his corrupt brother will run for president in 2012 and people will vote for him as well as if nothing has ever happened. This country is in great need of a clue.

It seems that President Bush is protecting marine resources far from the United States. The Sea Turtle Restoration Project has asked him to declare Marine Monument status in the Gulf of Mexico at the Padre Island National Seashore to protect the endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtles now nesting there. He could honor his father, President George H.W. Bush, who was president when the Turtle Excluder Device regulations was passed to allow sea turtles to escape drowning in shrimp trawls. Without this legislation, the Kemp's ridley would now be extinct.

There is just no pleasing some people. Janforgore you should be ashamed of yourself. You preach all day long about this type of stuff...but when it doesn't come in the package name you like you are ready to dismiss it. Well guys you show that the way you lean politically takes center stage over what is truely good. THANKS FOR SHOWING TRUE COLORS!!!!

For every 20 obviously horrible decisions, try to make one that seems okay on the surface.
