In Gaza fighting, Iran lurks in background

Image...
CAIRO, Egypt - Israel's fight with Hamas in Gaza, like the war with Hezbollah in Lebanon two years ago, is not just a struggle over the Palestinian issue but a broader proxy battle between Western allies and Iran for the very future of the Middle East.

If you have not paying attention to this mess, now would be a good time to start. Hamas to Iran, Iran to Russia and poof, we have a brand spanking new Cold War.

This article makes a lot of sense to me. The only problem I have with it is allowing Hamas a "face-saving partial authority roll" in Gaza. It's a fact it's been tried once before and worked - at least with Fatah. They've turned from terrorist to negotiation.

But this very same hand has already been offered Hamas. Their response was rockets. And I also think only 2 years is far too short a time to conclude the international peace keepers in Lebanon has worked as a strategy. Many suspect Hezbollah has been rearming through and under the nose of the peace keepers.

There's no doubt the world will sigh with relief if Israel buys into a cease fire. A cease fire isn't even a truce, none the less any sort of agreement. The Israelis have experienced this times without number and never has their problem gone away. Everybody stops in place; Israel withdraws. You go through a period of relative calm while the arabs rearm. Then you start again. This is what it's been.

I have no belief that this would be any different. And I won't blame them if they pursue this until they've done as good a job as possible removing Hamas as a threat. They owe that to their people. I'm also firmly convinced now, that if they buy in and the arabs start again Israel will somehow be blamed.

But the reality is, this article is probably what will come to pass. It's humanitarian and everybody buys into that. It will make the world community feel like they're actually doing something. I agree the move would help the stance of the moderate arab states, and they could use that. I admit it's possible a cease fire would be viewed favorably by the moderates in Iran which could help swing that country away from their hard line view.

All of Israels problems emanate from those arab countries that deny her right to exist. If this helps in that overall battle, that would be good. If we could achieve that, we could achieve a lasting peace. Peace is the one thing the Israelis have never been allowed.

When Hamas starts again, don't say you weren't warned.

The only form of peace is equal relations and hones equality on beliefs as well as on culture, look at the great christian societies of the world, yes they fought for religious equality, and even when they ran as far away from one another, they found they still had problems, the resolution was equal tolerance on all sides and even now that isn't everywhere, but in the nations where religious equality is the norm (even for atheist and voodoo and satanist practitioners (all which in my eyes are equally as bad as Islam extremes)) when the world comes to the same equal footing that the more advanced cultures have, then we will have less problems. (even if atheism tries to destroy all other religions just like Hamas.) God bless all who read this article, even those who don't wish it.

If it wasn't so tragic, it would be hilarious watching people overplay their various mindsets.

Of course, Iran is trying to expoit the situation. That's what Iran does. It's a terrorist nation that stalks around like a thief in a hotel corridor sampling doors to see if one is unlocked.

However, Iran did not create this situation, though it has aggravated it by supporting Hamas and Hezballoh. The situation was created by the Israeli-Arab conflict and by the allowing of Hamas to take over Gaza.

The ultimate resolution of this conflict will only come about when the Arabs and Israelis come to a deal. Then, the extremists who reject the deal will have to be dealt with. After that, Iran's influence will wither away.

a nice little piece of lyric i like to recall at times like this by a certain hip hop artist:

While Israelis are busy busting caps and shit
Got the bulldozers out and constructing shit
Displace another farmer but that land is his
When Hamas fires rockets Israel rebounds
Kills five times more, locks the checkpoints down
How the fuck you putting checkpoints there to start with?
When that land's Palestinian, it's known and it's charted
Collective punishment, they dish it out daily
So I hate Israel, but I don't hate Israelis. Do you get that?
Think a little bit before you get pissed
And is it any wonder Gaza kids adopt a death wish

    relative eh?

Just to find an SCAPEGOAT to blame Israeli atrocities on. Iran is being made to be the new evil. but as one of the gentlemen mentioned, Iran had nothing to do with 60 yr old between Israel and Arab. It is a known fact that late Shah of Iran[prior to 1979 Islamic Revolution] and Israel enjoyed very close and strong relationship.

Also it is a historical fact that Israel, through selling of arms and spare parts to Iran during Iran-Iraq war played a role in assisting Islamic Republic.

when isreal took power after WWII arabs were welcome to live in isreal. but they would let the jews live peacefully. when jews would go to the wailing wall to pray arabs would lob stones at the from behind the western wall. what hamas does is the same thing by firing rockets nonstop into isreal before during and after cease fires. isreal openly accepts all people to leave peacefully there millions of russians etheopians europeans and americans. the same would hold true for muslums if they simply would use thier words instead of arms. its just that simple

You are correct, a lunatic of a leader very very similar to GW bush and may be even crazier called Ahmadinejad, who is far less popular than G W said it. but remember this these are all propaganda from both side. allow me point your attention to this article:

[..JAY: The subtitling that we showed you came from a translation provided to us by Associated Press. Reuters translate it like this: [text on screen] "given the briefest chance, to regional nations, they will destroy it"—"destroy it" clearly meaning the regime, the Zionist regime. Some of the publications seem to stretch it to the destruction of Israel. This reminds us of 2005, when President Ahmadinejad made another speech that was translated around the world in two very different ways. Most of English media heard a translation saying that Israel should be wiped off the face of the earth, whereas an Agence France-Presse translated it and others translated it as saying the Zionist regime is doomed to disappear. So I guess what I'm asking you here is there's two very different camps of translating what Ahmadinejad is saying. One is, you could say, a somewhat observer's voice, in grammatical terms a more passive voice: the Israeli regime is doomed; the Israeli regime will collapse. But another translation is far more active, which is to destroy the regime; sometimes it gets, more often than not in American media, as destroying Israel......]

or on this one, You tell me who is planning to attack who????

[....SRAEL has drawn up secret plans to destroy Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities with tactical nuclear weapons.

Two Israeli air force squadrons are training to blow up an Iranian facility using low-yield nuclear “bunker-busters”, according to several Israeli military sources.

The attack would be the first with nuclear weapons since 1945, when the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Israeli weapons would each have a force equivalent to one-fifteenth of the Hiroshima bomb. ......]

Iran's top leader banned hardline Iranian volunteers on Thursday from leaving the country to carry out suicide bombings against Israel, but he warned that Iran would not spare any effort to assist Hamas in other ways.

“AIPAC Goes Ballistic: Says It Is ‘Outraged’ & Blasts Bush for Supporting Ceasefire”
“I never thought I’d see the day. AIPAC is furious with George Bush for not vetoing Security Council Resolution 1860 which calls for an immediate ceasefire. After almost eight years, the Bush administration has decided not to stand with Israel against an otherwise unanimous resolution.”

“I hope AIPAC enjoys blasting a President. On January 20, Barack Obama. having won a landslide victory -- including 80% of the Jewish vote -- and enjoying record popularity, will be immune to this sort of salvo, leaving AIPAC on the DL.”

George W. Bush is responsible for the war (indicated at http://andrewyu-jenwang.blogspot.com/2009/01/george-w-bush-is-to-blame-for-curre... “George W. Bush Is To Blame For The Current Gaza/Israeli War”).

This is weird. Bush is to blame for the war, and then he later supports a ceasefire.

Does Bush have multiple personality disorder?
