Sellers on Etsy are more than worried about their livelihoods when the Government's CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act) comes into being. The act states that ALL components of items for sale to children should be tested in their laboratories - this is almost definitely in response to the problems with cheap imports from China containing lead.
Unfortunately the act does not take into consideration the effect it will have upon small business owners. Many people on Etsy make a good living on the site - but they also sell their products at craft fairs, in small shops etc. and this means that their business is going to go down the pan.
I live in Britain and the act affects me in the sense that my plush toys will need to be tested, even though I don't aim them at children, people could still, effectively, buy them for children.
Very very sad indeed.
