no plant can be used as a religious sacrament -
good Christians don't believe in such things -
Ancient Zoroastrians and early Hindus used various concoctions known as Soma--sometimes one plant, sometimes another--to achieve a heightened state of religious ecstacy and awareness.
-
Bullshit, just more old time practices being used against peoples beliefs.

"This is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause"

"There is no Constitutional right to use marijuana for religious purposes" Is that a State Constitutional right or a U.S. Constitutional right being refered to ? I tend to assume it's the Arizona Constitution which its Court is referring to...But if it's the U.S. Constitution then that statement will be as true as horse hockey will be the next Olympic sport. Since natural sedatives like Cannabis bring people Peace. And since Peace which brings Love is the highest aspiration of many bona fide religions' core value systems, then of course an herb can be used as a sacrament. Christian monks of the Middle Ages in Europe used it thus. History affirms this notion.

and what about the native americans who used weed for religious purposes????

In response to "commenter" I will point out that both bread and wine (Christian sacraments) are plant based. However, a better way for all of us is to voice our opinions at Change.gov, to Obama and the transition team.
As you may know, the last round of question had a marijuana legalization question as number one.
The second round of "open for questions' is going on at the Obama Website. At the moment there is still a cannabis question in the top 10. We can bring it back up to the top. Once you get to the site, put in a search for marijuana, (cannabis, hemp) and vote them up. This link: http://change.gov/page/content/openforquestions20081229/
will take you there.
