Ha, that was pretty hilarious, and Richard Simmons does look the same, which is weird.
Personally I am kinda fed up with all of the diet advice I hear around the new year. It's annoying and worst of all after hearing and reading it so often it makes me feel like i really do need to loose weight (but i don't).
We live in a culture that is obsessed with being thin. It's good that most of the diets at least try to achieve that goal in a healthy way. But it does have an adverse effect on young girls (and guys) growing up with the mentality that they can't enjoy they body they have. Mental health is just as important as physical.

AnemicElistis, clarieabelle...
Neither of you can have her -- Sarah Haskins is MY imaginary girlfriend!
Only *I* can pretend she knows who I am/cares about my well being/is beaming secret messages into my brain with radiation!

Now, MY (vegetarian, non-smoking, nurse) MOMMA DONE RAISED ME to never drink soda on the basis that it was horribly unhealthy, and while I remember moaning about it occasionally, I grew into a deep appreciation for the no soda rule when I realized that I had developed neither diabetes nor obesity and it wasn't like I wasn't working for them with the sort of choco habit I have, ya know? So I for one think of the anti-soda advice as pretty solid on the balance. It's not even that satisfying, and you'll develop a stout and admirable tolerance for cheap liquor by imbibing it without the soothing effects of liquid sugar to ease it on down.
Not that Sarah is soliciting advice or anything, but it did occur to me that "chocolate as surrogate for [love life/happiness/satisfaction/___]" would be a pretty prime topic...
AND AND AND! I love Target, but online browsing makes me feel awfully self-conscious about my interests, because the header right below the clearance bar... well:
http://www.target.com/b/ref=sc_iw_l_0_1/?node=1041790
It serves as a good reminder that I should be doing something more productive than spending hours on pages headed "Target: Women: Shoes." (it doesn't seem to say that anymore for some reason but it tickled me whenever I saw it, which was admittedly pretty often...) -
Funny Stuff Sarah!!! My whole life I have been struggling with losing weight, and you wanna know the most effective weight loss tip I have found? Get braces! I'm serious, even though adult braces is very "Ugly Betty" I have lost about 30 pounds and have KEPT IT OFF! The trick is to also be a little lazy so that after you brush your teeth you don't want to eat anything else because then you'll have to brush again. It's the only example I can think of where vanity and laziness really work together...

Funny you brought Richard Simmons on this piece, in the UK for some reason, Mr Motivator returned to morning TV after 10 years... (he was popular back in the 90's)

OK, most of that was funny, but I seriously did have a patient who got her stomach stapled to lose weight and she really did drink 3 liters of soda a day. She said she would rather not drink diet soda. Really? really.

This is why I love the BIggest Loser (well the Australian version at least). No diets, no fads, just eating healthy and working out (albeit at ridiculous levels).
It's awkward watching Oprah lately when she has dieting and fitness specials....clearly she's not been following her "expert's" advice
