Obama should not let Bush off the hook for his crimes

Image...
The Obama team has shown some willingness to sweep many of the excesses of the Bush administration under the rug, allowing them to get away with their failures. This is a grave mistake. For the sake of posterity, Bush must be held accountable.

I do agree that for the sake of posterity, W. must be held accountable for his vast array of errors. However, in the face of historic crises on the economic and environmental fronts, Obama has to act decisively. If you got shot, what would you do first? Try to prosecute the perp? NO!!! You'd take your ass to the hospital! What I'm trying to say is that you handle problems that are happening in the present IN THE PRESENT. Posterity can wait. I'm sure that we'll remember how much of a f- up Bush was by the time we have kids. Our memories will never be that bad.Right now, we need to be worrying about if they'll even have a planet to live on.

All that should matter are war crimes committed. Who ever was the highest up to approve of torcher and such shall be the criminal and deserves to be punished! If the paperwork hasn't been destroyed already.

Lock up Bush and his cronies for war crimes along with Israelis leaders for the crimes they are committing as we talk

This is hugely important to restoring America's credibility in the world. If Bush is let off the hook completely it will be nearly impossible to hold any future President's accountable for their transgressions.

For the future of the country, Bush can't be allowed to get away with his crimes. If the President is above the law and the Constitution, we're done for.

no shit, but i dont think terrorism was really an issue before he was elected, and the race relations were probably mostly due to obama's election.

Depleted Uranium use in Iraq, Spearheading the down with America campaign, Lying on the record repeatedly. No man in modern history has done more to tarnish our nation's name and standing internationally. To let him retire with his wife's crazy expensive China as if what he has done is fine would be a disgusting precedent.

I agree, Bush should be held accountable. But he won't. We've seen how the democrats are just as corrupt as the republicans through all the bailouts. We've allowed corporations to take over our country and they've bought our representation. They're totally self-serving and until we the people march on Washington and demand a change nothing will be done. But when will that ever happen. I'm one of the people who's mad about what's been allowed to happen but I have no travel plans.

Bush is protected too heavily by the CEOs he's made very, very rich. And these CEOs tell our government what to do.

That's why he doesn't need the secret service protecting him after he leaves office, he's got corporate cronies to do so.

I agree that they are both for the same team. I also agree that action should be taken and posterity can wait a little while.

Bush is a criminal that needs to be locked up and held accountable for all his crimes in the US and outside the US. Don't forget his regime.

Truly the worst president in the history of US.

He's not getting let "off the hook" for anything. As far as i can tell, Bush is getting blamed for EVERYTHING

ahdbahd ur right, the use of uranium tipped missiles in Iraq has destroyed the land for decades and is causing horrific cancers in people who are already living in a warzone without equipped hospitals. this war crime itself should be made very public ... and if colalition soldiers end up suffering from the effects of handling it and living near it then maybe we will see some justice. Bush and even Blair need to face up to their 'mistakes'. I think legal action in this instance will not only make future leaders think vey carefully about invading another country but also send a sincere message of regret and sorrow to those in the world who think we're western scum with no morals.

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone".

The democrats share primary responsibility for the current financial crisis, and voted in favor of the Iraq war.

Above all, however, their pro-abortion stance directly results in the killing of millions of innocent, helpless children every year. Where is the punishment for that crime? With God, if nowhere else.

The opinions you people are drawing from this article are from an extremely subjective source. You can't back anything up that doesn't present both extremes, and you certainly aren't doing so.

I'd love to see some examples of these "war crimes" you idiots keep spouting off about. And please, leave torture out of it. If you wanted to hold every President accountable for torture they would all be in jail. Wake up people, criminals get tortured, and valuable information is gained. Grow up and deal with it.

What is it going to take for you people to just shut up and let it go? Do you want Bush to be beheaded on inauguration day? It seems like there's nothing that can satisfy your insatiable hunger to punish Bush for things that have occurred under many Presidents. I can only pray that Obama will commit some sort of fallacy in office, and when this irrational hatred starts steaming your way, I wonder if you will be so quick to dismiss it.

If there is anything I would find him accountable for is for not having a much longer Terrorism effort, but then, most American's boycotted his effort.

What better way to promote change then to launch a huge congressional investigation into possible criminal activities of the former president?! Theres certainly nothing better do, like look at the damn future.

Its the same reason Ford pardoned Nixon: to move the fawk on. Instead of dredging on things in the past to appease the liberal harpies, lets focus on the future. Deal?

Not just only Bush, but his Administrations members as well. They should all be brought to Congress and the whole world so they can be trial for their incompetent and greed. They should be held accountable for their failure to run the country down to the drain.

Great idea. But we need to cite all most current and many former members of Congress as accomplices. Oh, wait -- that's most of Obama's cabinet!. Dang...

what a bunch of tree huggers...all on one page...go grab a mac and fries and do something productive. Obama is a total joke. Everyone who voted for him, voted on attention and not results.

Why would Obama go after his relative, especially since both of their policies are run by similar corporations and lobbyist?

Our government has already one president slide. The excuse at the time was to heal the country. If it is possible to secure evidence then prosecuting Bush and others will restore a certain confidence in our government. The party is over, time to pay the fiddler.
