The time clock has run out: Israel ready to strike Iran

Image

Informed sources in Washington tell Newsmax that Israel indeed will launch a strike against Iran’s nuclear facilities soon – possibly in just days as President George W. Bush prepares to leave office.

The reason: The time clock has begun to run out. Iran is close to acquiring a nuclear device under the control of its radical president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Mohamed ElBaradei said in June that Iran would have a nuclear weapon in as little as six months.

That six-month period has passed.

Reports of Israel’s decision to imminently launch strikes, although unconfirmed, would seem to contradict the Bush stance outlined in a front-page New York Times story last week, which asserted that Bush rejected a plea from Israel last year to help it raid Iran’s main nuclear complex.

The Times said Israel was rebuffed after it requested from the U.S. specialized bunker-busting bombs that it needs to attack Iran’s nuclear complex at Natanz. The U.S. also reportedly nixed permission to the Israeli warplanes to fly over Iraqi territory to reach Iran.

Israel’s requests to the U.S. for military assistance came as the Jewish state was reportedly angry over a U.S. intelligence assessment in late 2007 that concluded Iran had effectively suspended its development of nuclear weapons.

But an investigative report circulated by IAEA chief ElBaradei late last year disclosed that Iran was continuing to carry out uranium enrichment and had already established 6,000 centrifuges for enriching uranium, of which 3,800 were then in operation.

    • It is sad that we have come to this. The bottom line is that Iran can not be allowed to have a nuclear bomb. While the people of Iran may be good people, the leaders of Iran are insane. A nuclear bomb in their hands would be similar to a nuclear bomb in the hands of terrorist.
Israel must do whatever it takes to protect her people and the people of the world from this very real threat.

    • why so much hate toward a nation who has done nothing to you? why so much thirst for the blood of innocent? doesn't Israel have blood of enough civilians on its hand? Israel has started every war in past 60 years. How many wars did Iran start? NONE and yet Israel is sitting on 200 atomic booms.

Stop this war mongering Iran had nothing to do with 9/11.

    • I don't really like Newsmax as my source for news, just my preference. Their more than a little right-leaning.

But all the same, a nuclear Iran would be a strategic nightmare for not just Israel, but the US. Iran already funds and supports groups like Hezbollah, and the fact that an entity that is known to support terrorists has access to a nuclear weapon is no laughing matter...

If Israel has to strike Iran to stop them from acquiring nuclear weapons, I would support them, but it would mean an escalation of instability in the already fragile Middle East....

    • Maybe the USA can’t afford anymore to be Israel’s mercenary, as in Irak, so the Zionist will have to cut the middle man ?

Israel's Mossad secret service (Motto: "To wage war by way of deception") pursued this policy for decades. In 1994 former Mossad agent Victor Ostrovsky wrote that Mossad's "overall goal" was to get "the West to do its bidding."

Most Jews, like most Americans, want no part of any elite Master Plan. People who attribute all opposition to this agenda as anti Semitism are morally unctuous, self-deluded, and passive aggressive.

“When it comes to the Israeli-Arab conflict, the terms of debate are so influenced by organized Jewish groups like AIPAC that to be critical of Israel is to deny oneself the ability to succeed in American politics.” - Henry Siegman, former head of the American Jewish Congress

“I don't think there is such a thing as an independent Israel doing anything, because I think no matter what they do its our [American] money, its our weapons, and their not going to do it without us approving it and if they get into trouble we're going to bail them out, so there is no separation between the two.” - Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX), Dec. 28, 2008

"Political Zionism is an agency of Big Business. It is being used by Jewish and Christian financiers in this country and Great Britain, to make Jews believe that Palestine will be ruled by a descendant of King David who will ultimately rule the world. What delusion! It will lead to war between Arabs and Jews and eventually to war between Muslims and non-Muslims. That will be the turning point of history." (Henry H. Klein, "A Jew Warns Jews," 1947)

The universally accepted definition of INSANITY is to persist in the same behavior but expecting a different outcome.

So if Obama wants to rebuild BRAND AMERICA; he has to distance himself & Americans from killing babies, children, women & civilians…

      Now,THAT would be a START !

"The age of warrior kings and of warrior presidents has passed. The nuclear age calls for a different kind of leadership....a leadership of intellect, judgment, tolerance and rationality, a leadership committed to human values, to world peace, and to the improvement of the human condition. The attributes upon which we must draw are the human attributes of compassion and common sense, of intellect and creative imagination, and of empathy and understanding between cultures." - William Fulbright

    • 8 years? What about 9/11? What about the Anthrax attacks? They were during the eight years, weren't they?

janwolke, I hope you know what you are talking about and not just spinning hope. I don't mind being called an idiot women. If you are correct, I can relax. Many who have spoke of World War III would prefer to be wrong. I hope I'm wrong. I hope Barack Obama will bring change and diplomacy.

Oh how I long to relax and enjoy life. Living in fear of bad "decidership" has been almost unbearable. Say what you want about me, I have not felt safe for the past 8 years. George W. and his administration have scared the heck out of me. I do not trust them, they have lied on numerous occasions with no consequences for doing it.

Former Prosecutor Elizabeth de la Vega wrote a book, United States v. George W. Bush et al. In her book she covers 7 days of Grand Jury testimony and explains the illegality of a President lying to the American people. Candidates can say what they want, they have not taken the oath of office. Presidents are different, it is illegal for them to lie to Congress, or us.

    • For over a year I have been in fear of war with Iran. Admiral Fallon was my rock. He stated that an attack on Iran would not happen on his watch. He was removed.

I have a wager with my husband that George W. will be a participant with a major war escalation before he leaves office. He can't afford for Barack Obama to allow an investigation into his acts of war. George W. knows criminal things have been done by his administration. He can't afford to let the possibility of an investigation happen.. He and his cronies could be charged with War Crimes. They have no defense, they have admitted guilt. I'm sure many in government today have much to loose if the Justice Department operates the way it was set up to operate.

War with Iran is definitely possible. Russia and China did war games with Iran. Russia said an attack on Iran is an attack on them. Russia has done war games with countries in our hemisphere. I'm afraid the next week is very important, we could be in danger of World War III, while mainstream media spins other subjects. Mainstream media have been enablers of George W. and his war crimes. They have repeatedly spun Americans in different directions every time news about the wrongs of George W. was exposed. Nothing to see here, move along and we do.

It is time to stop move along. Don't think it can't happen. Who would have thought we would be in a war of choice with the use of forged documents? Who would have thought we would be participants in torture? Who would have thought George W. and Dick Cheney would lie in plain sight and then deny it? All you have to do is watch Jon Stewart and he plays both clips, them saying it, then them denying it.

I don't know how this will turn out, but I know they scare the heck out of me. I don't want to be a refugee in America because of bad leadership, turned into bad decidership. They have made to many preparations to not have a plan in place. I pray my fears are wrong, but things are looking pretty scary.

    • WHO CARES if Iran gets a nuclear weapon?

North Korea, Russia, and China have nuclear weapons, why arent we attacking them?

Everyone and their mom has nuclear weapons these days, its a terrible excuse to go to war.

The only message we're sending to other countries is "Hey, get nuclear weapons as fast as you can or else you will be bullied around like Iran"

    • @Katanajon --

I responded to your email, but thought it would be good to share all of this here just to avoid any confusion. Here are a couple of things that should probably be cleared up.

First, your story and it's image have not been touched by our editors. If any of our editors ever needed to change anything about one of your posts, they would have reached out to inform you that something was happening. For example, sometimes we get requests from a publication or the original owner of a photograph to take down an image that accompanies a story on Current, even though that very image was used to accompany the same story on the original site. When this happens, we have to comply with the request, but you would have at least received a comment on the item or an email stating something along the lines of, "Hey, we've been asked to remove that image, I'm swapping it out." That said, this isn't what happened with your story. It looks like you may have been experiencing a bug involving the way images are shown on individual stories. Either way, I've looked into this and no one has changed the image on this story. If it continues, I would shoot an email to support [at] current.com, and be sure to include the type of browser you are using, the type of OS you are using on your computer, and a link to the story in question.

Second, it's important that you realize that anyone in the Current community can add tags to any story. This is an open system, so anyone could have added those tags. Our editors would have no reason to add anything like this to your story (and quite frankly are way too busy to have time to do anything like this). This looks like the work of someone who disagrees with the post, and thankfully you can always edit the story and remove these tags from your story as they crop up.

Thirdly, regarding your achievements, Current:News picks have not been aired on TV since 12/18. Check out this post on the blog for more details (http://current.com/items/89635853/current_com_release_changes_to_current_news/0....). Basically, we are in the middle of building the next big thing for Current, and because this task is so huge, we've temporarily stopped airing Current:News on TV for a while in order to have all hands on deck for these new projects. Now when a story is picked on the homepage, it is no longer being "picked for TV," but instead being picked for featuring on the homepage. Since this is the case, you will not receive credit in the "picked for TV" achievement because those stories do not actually get aired on TV. We're working as fast as we can to get things back up and running, and trust us, all of this will start to make more sense over the course of the next few months.

I hope this helps clear things up. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out again.

      best,
      mario

    • How about you hand over an official version of the story by a respectable news agency instead of this blog-like article.

Here, i gave you a hand already:

      http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=israel+iran&ie=UTF-8&...

Once you found it i'll start taking the original article seriously. For now i wont, not in the last place because the article contains false information, as i will now prove:

Iran seen to need 3-8 yrs to produce bomb: http://www.reuters.com/article/worldNews/idUSL2214711120071022

"PARIS (Reuters) - Iran would need another three to eight years to make a nuclear bomb, the head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog said in an interview published on Monday, warning against any rush to use force to curb its nuclear ambitions.

Mohamed ElBaradei, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), told France's Le Monde newspaper there was plenty of time for diplomacy, sanctions, dialogue and incentives to bear fruit."

This was just one minute work for me. Do your research before you post garbage and lies like this.

Don't switch subjects. The article is full of lies, and i just proved it to you. I don't care whether you got it from Yahoo or Ebay, it's just not true.

Just remove the article, or at least state that the source is not to be taken seriously.

      Hey Katanajon,

I'm curious to see if this is a technical issue we need to be concerned with. Our goal is to improve and your feedback is pivotal. Our email address is support@current.com. Can you please send me the link and screenshot of the article you are referring to, in which the picture was removed and the tags too if you recall them. I'll look back into in it.

To take a screenshot on a Mac - Hold the (Command) Key +Shift+4 Allows you to use your mouse to select a specific part of your desktop for capture. This will turn your mouse pointer into a cross, please hold down the mouse button and drag to select the part of the screen you want. When you release the button the screenshot will "snap" that part of the screen. Press 'Esc' to release.

To do this in Windows. Press the "Prnt Scrn" button. Open Microsoft Paint. To do this, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint. Click inside the white part of the screen. Go to the Edit menu and click Paste or you can press and hold "Ctrl" and tap V. Click File > Save As. In the box that pops up, change the "Save As Type" to PNG or JPG. Type in a filename for your image. Choose a place to save, like the Desktop, and click save.

Concerns regarding staff participation and perceived “selective censorship” in Current.com have been raised before, and I’d like to try and clear the air a bit. Please check out our blog post on the subject for a more detailed explanation. I hope this helps explains things. http://current.com/items/89036777/let_s_talk_staff_participation_algorithmic_sou...

How can Israel ignore the threat of Iran if they posses nuclear weapons, when Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has stated that the holocaust never really happened, and the Jews should not be allowed to exist? How can the world rest with that knowledge? I know not, tell me, do you?

They have left the World with no other choices. World at War is pretty gruesome indeed. We did not like it when they attacked N.Y. We won't like it when they do something else and American Children are on the front pages.

    • I don't think this is likely, but I believe a nuclear Iran is one of the most wrong directions this planet could go.

Planet. Yeah, I'm talking eons from now the remains of our civilization is dug from the sands of a dead planet by scientists from "where ever" blah-blah-blah.

I'd put up a portion of my own money to keep Iran nuclear free. I can't think of one, single, solitary, uno, desperate reason that this could ever, ever, ever, be a good idea.
