More Obama paraphernalia coming your way!! It seems like we just can't get enough. More than 10 American designers, including Zac Posen, Tory Burch, and Diane von Furstenberg, have created official items for the 2009 inauguration to support the "Runway to Change" initiative, the ambitious project that bolstered Obama's election campaign. The proceeds from the sale of the items will support the cost of the inauguration, which is expected to soar to nearly $45m, in keeping with the 2005 swearing in event.

I realize that the cost of everything has increased, and that we all want the Pres. and Pres.-elect to be safe, but $45 Million... that's just crazy.
Just think... Geo. Washington, Adams, Jefferson and others had to pay out of their own pockets for their parties, inaugurations, balls, china, clothing etc.
Imagine what it would be like in DC next week if the Obama family had to pay the bills themselves, and then ask if $45 million is a little over the top.

I like some of these, but I hate the idea of a $45 million inauguration that wouldn't be possible without proceeds from designer bags and t-shirts. There's something wrong there.

$45 Million for an inauguration. Not to mention a new basketball court in The White House and a new Cadillac Presidential limo. No wonder he wants a "stimulus" bill, he's going to need one with all the money he's spending.

I know you're not on his side politically, but Obama is all of our president-elect. As president, don't you want him safe? I am not a big fan of President Bush, but I do want to see him protected. And I hope beefing up security for a new president who has already received substantial threats is something we could all support, no matter our political leanings. Having a president killed is not good for anyone!
