my guess is that those most adamant against religion have never fought with it FROM THE INTERNAL ASPECTS of the "SYSTEMS" of religion. If you brush religiously (hair, teeth) YOU ARE RELIGIOUS by definition...you expect a result. So, yes, of course ALL who do things by rote expect an end...and usually the altruistic do whatever they can for points WHETHER HERE OR HEREAFTER. I think its more close minded to expect and maintain that there's a singular dimension of existence especially in light of the scientific evidence of sub molecular space (what if there's a universe on the scale of intra molecular interaction) or better yet, how do you explain "awareness"... the concept is astounding! i don't think of rocks as being "aware" ( i don't converse with them or have spats or buy them material goods like toothpaste). Very limited thinking and cowardly to fail to embrace options, but then, since evolution IS the official stance of catholicism, then nothing is to be considered outside the holy see's dictates, o great catholic(universalist). tell you what: evolve some more and quit eating...maybe you'll be the first to show us how INDEPENDENT you are from the elements and composite interrelations we mere mortals have with mere plant life for sustenance...and if you're a proponent for the botanical as a relative of humanity for the evolutionary tree (vs. rain on rocks producing a primordial soup from which amoeba evolved SEPERATE from plants, as most camps insist)..poor you, cannibal (such activity decried by the three major religions), unless of course you're evolving to aforementioned higher plane of evolution sans FOOD as we mere mortals refer to phytonutrients (maybe you can graze on some limestone or granite as an intermediate to your enlightened state...we understand). No, you are COMPLETELY dependent on the DESIGN of a Creator...but knowing who the pirates are who've usurped the specific culture of the divine is the ONLY way to persist in doing well despite the rich and the crazed (usually found in the elite circles of aforesaid religions of the world, agreed ).

Photosynthesist-- thanks for watching my movie about Elanit. Based on your ideas, you may be interested in keeping tabs on a feature that I'm working on about the Hubble Space Telescope. It gets at some of the issues you raised. www.savinghubble.com

it's a bit racist, it's almost like saying I only date and want to marry a white middle class nazi boy. . . perhaps she should give up being Jewish and become a human being, then she might just find a soul to mate with

There are only 13 million Jews in the world. That is less than .01% of the world's population. Jews marrying other Jews is the only way that Jews can safeguard the continuity of their people and heritage. So either you were uninformed and were unaware of the Jewish people's small number relative to the world population or you wouldn't mind to see Jews and Judaism disappear off the planet.

Having been a former christian CONVERTED to [what folks construe as] Judaism , I can see and relate to that same struggle which Elanit had more than most. It becomes wearisome dealing with heartless jerks who voice their opinion about your faith without knowing the desire that drives you to show mercy to spiritually confused folk. What I find of great significance is that I get to share my faith in places such as a tattoo parlor, coffee shops, health food stores, and bodybuilding gyms (and wherever else folks are confined to the mundane) where they embrace my diversity and encourage me in my art AND my soulmate search(or one of several in their estimation) along with the faith. It's been cool to know that Brian "Head" Welch founding member of Korn has built an orphanage in a cannibalistic area of India under the similar premise whereby I operate (i.e. as one willing to propagate the savior of Israel and the world) and done so much more humanely than MOST who post their thoughts here at current (or so it seems). No hate crime to encourage folks to do more!

why couldn't he just build the orphanage in the name of being a good human being instead of in the name of his savior?
im guessing the answer is because he doesn't simply want to do altruistic things, but he does them in order to gain credit for it in the afterlife.
instead of doing something for the simple sake of helping others, religious people have a tendency to do things with the motivation of "propagating" their religion aka only doing things in order to further convert and spread or even force their views onto others.
and then religious people wonder why their not so religious counterparts criticize them.... - 12 months ago

but more often than not it is the religion is not accepting of things.
theres restrictions to religion theres no restrictions to simply being a human being. - 12 months ago

this is crazy, am typing again... lost my first response ...
well this is no "Fiddler on the Roof" deal, but it is great to see her honesty in finding a person to share her life.
Not all of us are this lucky, and "if we do, or thought we did" and does not work out over time, things do change, then you roll with it ...best wishes to her, and Mazel Tov , and L'Chaim.!

This was a great story, and such an interesting counterpoint to the pod that I helped produce about my friend Aaron. Check it out!
The challenge with a 5 - 7 minute documentary is that you really don't get the complete story. Please don't assume that you fully understand Elanit's motivations from this piece, and definitely don't judge her decisions.

i think this was the cutest thing, and i am not religious and i do believe religion jacks things up. however, how wonderful that the world is not made up entirely of me's, and that she found someone for her fitting with how she standards her life. very sweet.

pathetic! talented, attractive, and cool young lady, only if you drop the religious aspect.
once again, goes to show, that religion poisons and complicates life.
so DESPERATE, she just wanted to fit in, she found her Rabbi, and she's in with her people, that's challenging, ya. she should have found a secular sweetheart with talent and intelligence, not some religious puppet. ha ha, drones.

believing in God is a good thing. finding a soulmate is a good thing. Becoming a mother is an AWESOME miracle and it takes a good artist to master the art of motherhood and love. Love is an art form this is why so few people are good at marriage. there is not enough good artists in the world...How can we forget God when he is the most creative person?

I think her being an artist will make her a more gifted and wonderful mother. Being a mother is an art form and it is the highest type. The art of Love is very powerful. Also children love to do art projects and they are naturally gifted

I think the point is is that being in that environment may stifle her ability to creatively express herself. I wouldn't call art projects with your kids equal to expressing yourself.
The restrictions of religion is often at odds with the freedom and liberation of art. Actually religion is the antithesis to virtually every form of freethinking. - 12 months ago

I hope I make it that far without being married or wasting my time with pointless relationships. It is truely enriching to be a creative individual alone. I hate it most of the time, but I often take myself too seriously so which most women don't like. Anyway, good pod.

Ok like most things related to Jewish people or religious people in general. This would have been a touching story. That is all it boils down too in the end with religious people it is the primary focus of there lives. They seem to force everything they do, every story that they live into that narrow window. Making the rest of us to recoil back from what would have been a very human story about someone looking for love. I for one felt that the story was named wrong. It should be "Jewish girl seeks soulmate" being an artist had nothing to do with it.

Hasidic Jew apparently. I lived in that neighborhood before, Crown Heights. They're very tight nit and I think there is a reluctance to sway from the community. And yeah, a lot of the kids move into the neighborhood and get married with kids at like 25, its amazing because you hear nothing but arguments and you see these Jewish mothers carrying around like 2, 3 kids, all of them like a year apart, and I think there is quite the expectancy that they would basically become housewives, which is probably why that guy told her that if they were going to be together that she would have to give up being an artist.

guys!!! where is your tolerance? respect for another's religious beliefs? who are we to judge? the artist was honest and open about her desire to be married. this is her choice, she was always a jew, she just decided to go further into her faith to find what she wanted. why can't people just be happy that another person has found THEIR truth, it has no impact on mine or the person who wrote against it.
one love brother!!!

Why so sad? A backwards belief system is one that believes in no God. That everything is just "coincidence". I'd have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. Sometimes Surrendering is True Freedom....
