    • Interesting how many people actually disagree with you guys. Does that mean that _current users are pot smokers? I used to smoke pot but decided to stop for my own reasons.
Now... I used to smoke fags as well... quit those too. Must say that it was a lot easier to stop smoking pot then it was to stop fags. My girlfriend on the other hand still smokes fags and it's amazing how pissed off she gets when she doesn't smoke for a longer while. Then when she lights one up she "back to normal".
My friend's father used beat up his wife when he could get a drink.
I never heard of a anyone doing something nasty or wrong to others or himself after pot.

The good thing is that you actually getting the debate. Over here in Poland there is no way we could get this kind of conversation on mainstream television.
Maybe it's slow but it's still a change America.

Because it is kinda hard to smash you car ..DRUNK
????? Right ? Start Fights ??? Right ? Throwing Up
Right ? And come to think Booze is the right choice
      For Assholes .......Nuff Said !

    • That's funny that the DEA guy has no clue what he's saying. They say that pot has over 1000 harmful chemicals and 800 of those same chemicals are found in roasted coffee. Plus no one has ever died from smoking pot and these are real facts. It's time to legalized and profit from this crop.Plus it will stop millions of dollars from going into anti-marijuana programs that make no impact on schools. We could use that money for other things.Like the war.

    • weed is not dangerous... its stupid... but its not dangerous its not worth sending people to prison for.

prison isn't the answer... we should follow the lead of the Netherlands.

    • Marijuana is not harmful. Hell, it was legal at the turn of the 20th century...

Since then, how many people have died from Alcohol poisoning?
Now, how many people have died from Marijuana overdose?

If your answer for the last question is anything but zero, go back and check your work.

    • our whole country operates on propaganda! The truth is never spoken by the drug war mongoloids. always gateway blah blah, causes cancer blah blah. The only people that like the drug war is the drug nazis that break down peoples doors and break up families. Remove the confiscation laws that allow them to steal peoples homes, cars and bank accounts! They wont be so eager to ruin lives then. Its all about lies and money. I was busted for trying to purchase some weed. cost me my business, truck and 7000 dollars. I didnt even have any weed, just made a phone call to purchase. class three felony with 30 months probation. called buying with intent to distribute and manufacture. Hell just wanted some bong fuel. I have since lost any respect for cops, politicians and america in general. we have lost all of our constitutionaly guarenteed rights. when the guns are gone we will be the same as north korea or any totalitarian country. freedom is gone thanks to the drug war.

    • this guy is a dying breed, we have just seen the first black president, and icelands new president is the first openly gay leader in the history of the world. people are natually getting more open-minded. the figures and numbers he speaks are bullshit, simply not true, anyone who used statistics as an argument should respect that they are not something to be taken into account. he lies about doctors saying it is harmful, and its too bad if the governments dont want a country of dope smokers, they already have one!

    • Legalizing it in the Netherlands successfully made it boring to their youths. Their biggest problem is still alcohol.

    • It's not complicated. They need to put it under regulation just like alcohol if they're going to decriminalize it.
Decriminalization without regulation is doomed to fail.
The DEA are fighting against it so strongly because it's their reason for existence. When the alcohol prohibition was repealed the agency that was in place, that later was renamed to DEA, had to have something to go after in order to justify their being. Lo and behold marijuana was chosen. Not because it was a big problem but because going after it served two purposes.
      1. It gave them something to do to look busy.
      2. It gave them the opportunity to torment Mexican immigrants and blacks, pure and simple.
Now that we have a proliferation of truly dangerous drugs being a problem, they can't get good old MJ out of their heads. They are still afraid it will put them in a position of not being useful, aka out of work.
They are ignoring the fact that these other drugs are far more dangerous and are much more prominent than way back when.
Point being, they've got work to do besides bash MJ.
They could focus all the resources they do on MJ to cocaine, meth and heroin for starters.
But they're a bunch of stuck in the mud dick heads.

    • Old guy: "harmful and addictive product"

Sad that so many americans actually believe these old lying bastards.

At this point he doesn't care about what is right or good for america, he only cares about saving his job and not having to face that his life's work has been a sham.

This guy is a prison lobby shill.

Young Guy: well spoken but I wish he went for the throat.

    • LOL @ the DEA ignoranus for thinking that Marijuana is addictive. Even funnier is that he still believes in the "gateway drug" myth. His kind won't be missed when they all pass away.

    • that DEA guy is an idiot and the news people just interupted the MPP guy everytime he started making a strong argument.

Its not addictive, I and millions of others can attest to that. There is hardly any danger in doing the drug itself more danger comes from dealing with criminals to get the drug and the laws to prohibit the drug.

Do you research people make up your own mind dont let these idiots with their weaks arguments decide for you.

I wouldn't call the DEA guy an idiot, but I would say, if he believes what he is saying whole-heartedly, then he has been misinformed. It sounds like a cherry-picked version of the negative a from blind set of stereotypes. Which is exactly the opposite of what I've seen. What I fear is people hiding things from me or others, and that's what is causing the problem here.

Hollywood already crossed the line anyway.

The proverbial cat is out of the bag, and it just makes certain scenarios look silly, because they are.

    • They decriminalized it wrong.

Remove the labels and analyze the debate.

Alcohol and tobacco and the age versus responsible behavior arguments get twisted a lot.

Kudos on setting up such debates, but the DEA guy doesn't understand marijuana first hand, or he'd realize the problem is certain people, not the plant.

My best friend in college got a 4.0 biomed using weed and ritalin to study before I would even think about touching such things. Whoops, did I waste a lot of time doing stupid stuff for no reason except I thought it was right at the time. You have to evaluate things on a case-by-case basis, and look at how everything plays into everything else.

The only thing marijuana and meth have in common is the not-exactly-accurate law has put them in the same category.

      (facepalm)

Green was a stepping stone BACK from more dangerous colors for me.

Then again, I am an exception, which is why I advocate testing and special permits with restrictions and qualifying behavioral tests.

Or just leave things the way they are, and if so, no harm, no foul should be the barometer.

    • Drug use declined by 50%? So if we have 42% smoking right now, he's saying that we had about 70 something percent smoking awhile ago? Bullshit.

Drug use increased in Netherlands? 19% of Holland's citizens have tried smoking pot, whereas 42% of Americans have. You can compare the numbers and tell me where more people smoke.

Really, the war on drugs is a success? Yeah because when almost half the nation has smoked pot, that's really a success story, especially seeing how it's been illegal for more than 80 years.

yes he is. Every one of his arguments were logical fallacies.

They sound good to people who dont know the facts, but to those of us who do know the facts they were very weak arguments.

    • I hate to say, i just lost almost all respect for CNBC, these reporters don't do any fact checking any more. The "conclusion" that marijuana is a gateway drug is true in some cases false in another, just like how antibiotics work with some people and don't with others, this is a mirror situation where some people will go on to bigger harder drugs but the smart percentage will stay where they are and be happy.

I really wish they gave the Pro-Marijuana guy more time to speak he's an intelligent being that is working for the public's best interest.

See the positive behavior it inspires?

The funny part is, Governor Schwarzenegger was on TV wearing a yellow tie at the same time you guys showed that clip of him smoking.

Judging by the outfits, I would have expected ebonics, but I was pleasantly surprised by the proper delivery of the message. Nice job guys. You make some very valid points.

You would probably get dressed up in a suit and go to church to smoke weed wouldn't you?
