So much for the repugnant party and the lies that their corporate media have been telling us. On another post about Barrack in the days that he has been president hasn't changed anything. I think if McCain had of won the election and this launch had have happened today in the McCain admin. we would be at defcon 4 by now. Be very afraid the crazy towels heads have a rocket now. Change has come already.

No offense, but the United States is the least of Iran's worries right now. Let's hope that cooler heads in Tel Aviv keep the more hawkish elements of the Israeli Defense Forces from turning the launch site (...and maybe a few isolated locations around Tehran) into a moonscape within the next seventy-two hours.
Is this a worrying development...yes, but it's not like they have the capacity to put MIRV's on top of the thing.
Yet.

This is worrysome, but not unexpected. Not sitting on their hands, are they?
A question that comes to my mind is what the strict Islamic view on space travel is; or if there is one. For some reason I suspect an ulterior motive from these folks. Most other nations that are involved in space are also involved with the International Space Station.
Guess I just don't trust these folks. Easy to make one observation though. As they now have 2 stage rocket capabilities, then when they develop the bomb they'll have no trouble hitting Tel Aviv with it.

Iran is just begging to be invaded. thank god Obama is in the white house because if it was up to the republicans we will be in there yesterday.
-
They might have no problem hitting Tel Aviv or the united states for that matter. However, it don't matter where they go first because we will probably experience the nuclear winter.
-
What if we launch a rocket? It'll be all fine and dandy, right? What's the big deal if they do? They're not even nearly as powerful as us anyways. We're all humans, this should make no difference. If we're allowed to have over 40,000 (if not a shitload more) nuclear bombs and it's accepted, what's the big deal if they have some (probably never even going to reach triple digits) for the same reason why we have some (self-defense)? Who are we to say who can posses weapons and who can't? Don't be a hypocrite.

This definitely isn't being done at a good time.
Well, not a whole lot of debate anymore. They'll probably have a nuke within a year.
I'll admit it, I was wrong. The question now is what is the correct response?
-
Do we need to get Russia and China more involved?
-
If Iran has the capability to launch a rocket into space or even strap a nuke onto it and have the capability to launch it as a weapon. They should also have the mental capability as a country to know that should they launch a weapon against another country that it will be Mutual assured destruction.
As Americans we are fed propaganda that Iran is an evil backwards country, when I agree they are very different being a Islamic Theocracy, I disagree that they should not have the same rights as other modern nations. They are more modern than other country's that we seem to be friends with.
-
It is indeed time to invade one of the last threats that is growing daily. A country that not even the Arabs like.
Once the world is done with Iran, we need to take on Myanmar and North Korea. Russia and China will move to a full capitalism/open democracy eventually.
And Cuba... The wagon left Cuba 50 years ago!
-
Very troubling and fodder for the Star Wars anti missile program that was on target to being taken down.
-
time to look at the real threat..America has already used the Nuclear bomb?
Dont throw stones at the Iranians if they do want to protect their lives?
They have as much right to arm themselves as anyone else..although it is about time the Arms wholesale market came to a halt..and peace without these weapons was the main agender... -
So Israel launches a campaign of ethnic cleansing targeting women and children, killing thousands, wounding many more, using weapons such as phosphorous that are banned and considered war crimes and they get applauded by the US. Meanwhile, Iran launches a satellite and it is "grave concern".
There are just no morals left in the US anymore.

Personally I think it's something to be actively celebrated! Yet another country has managed to progress to putting satellites into space! If Iran keeps on modernising and advancing like this they'll soon have to get rid of the medieval, restrictive values they went back to after the revolution. If the west embraces them as they did with China, they will no longer BE a "concern".

will you all relax, look at that rocket, it looks like a friggin bottle rocket. damn chill out! SOT ------------P

WTF is America bitching for? You can't stop a fairly developed nation from expanding its horizons; scientific progress is the right of any nation.
Iran is smart enough to know that it would be carpet bombed to fuck if it ever rocketed the US or one of its allies; there seems to be an aspect of fear mongering propaganda by the US here.
-
the center of this debate is (or should be) a theocracy (like israel) has the capability for mass destruction. When you have a leader that aggressively proclaims victory will be when all the jews and christians are dead, you have a fucking problem.

good for them....might help them keep the US from turning them into an Iraq...sorry, but we are the only assholes on the planet who have actually used these weapons, and anything and everything else we can get our mad scientists to develop and put into the hands of the DOD.

Why should we be worried.... Prison politics 101:
When you go to prison, the first thing they tell you to do is: Find the biggest-baddest guy, kick his ass, or become his bitch.
The US is the biggest guy, and Iran isn't interested in being our bitch.
See where I'm going with this
-
Iran's flanked by America on 2 sides (Afghanistan and Iraq ) and with most of the Arab world firmly under US influence / hegemony, Iran pretty much have to fight for their survival.
For a country that's pretty much been disconnected from technological transfers from more developed countries, this satellite launch is a laudable achievement.

It's interesting as always to see the common ideological approach to middle eastern news [it's ANOTHER DISASTER FOR EVERYBODY - RUN TO THE MATTRESSES!]
More soberly we find people who do not perceive themselves between the ideological cross-hairs offer different opinions.
Here's one. Iran's biggest threat isn't Israel - it is an unhinged Pakistan. Fanatical Sunnis armed with nukes against Persian Shiites, with none.
Here's another. Because Afghanistan is a logistical disaster, not enough men, can't trust Russia or China to send more troops (without them taking over) guess who America now wants to offer its help?
Iran.
Because so much is done to sensationalize trivia our media is a laughingstock.
