Orchard Park police arrested Muzzammil Hassan, 44, on Thursday for investigation of second-degree murder, The Buffalo News reported.
Police identified the victim as Aasiya Z. Hassan, 37. Her body was found at his business, Bridges TV.
Hassan is the founder and chief executive officer of Bridges TV, which he launched in 2004 amid hopes that it would help portray Muslims in a more positive light. Its slogan was "connecting people through understanding."
According to authorities, Aasiya Hassan recently filed for divorce and had a protection order against her husband, the Buffalo News reported.
"Obviously, this is the worst form of domestic violence possible," Erie County District Attorney Frank A. Sedita III said Friday...

here we go.. gather all the ignorant folks to come attack the "religion of peace" and blame this incident on islam and try to convict 1 billion people in the name of one crazyass..
1. did the guy really do it? does innocent until proven guilty apply in this case in any way?
2. assuming he did do it.. was it because his religion told him to cut his wife's head off? or was he mentally unstable and either lost his temper and did it in a fit of rage.. or was he psychotic and believed in some way that it was his religious obligation to carry out such a crazy act..
there is a difference between a religion and its followers.. there are many who pick and choose or corrupt that primary belief which they claim to follow..
this crime has as much to do with islam as charles manson had to do with christianity..
peace..

Islam is not a religion that teaches a follower to behead his estranged wife. Islam as taught in the arab tribal cultures in some non-arab sects does indeed teach a follower that if a wife dishonors her spouse she is also dishonored because her identity is her spouse and dishonorable people should take their own life to return honor to the family. If she will not do it, it is the duty of the husband or father, to do it. in one of various ritual fashions as determined by the sect. Oh and by the by westerners do not behead our spouses we strangle them, shoot them, drown them, etc. We never think to behead them so sorry this is a muslim believer who murdered her.
-
Well those are certainly plausible scenarios, but there is a cultural element that keeps getting repeated and played out here, that of violence against women. Women are being treated in many instances, worse than animals.
I am sure that the local police wouldn't have accused the man of beheading his wife, if it were not that she was found with her head severed from her body in his studio; they are still looking for the weapon. Is he going to say that some mystery person came into his studio and beheaded his wife, what while he was in the bathroom? the storeroom? outside taking a smoking break?

Way to teach about how Islam is a great religion. Muslims treat women no better than the dirt on the bottom of their shoes.

I would believe you sober if this so called islamic mainstream that supposedly does not support this would stand up and condemn the wahabists and other "extremists". Is it they dont care? Are they scared? Maybe they like the extremists doing their dirty work for them? Maybe we "westerners" are quite efficient in abusing our women in other ways I know of no mainstream religion which actively supports and enables it.

Oh the irony is too much.

Here's irony we helped in Pushing Wahhabism in to Europe
Saudi Arabia Pushing Wahhabism in Bosnia
It is not enough that the Saudi state entrench the vile extremist Islam of Wahhabism; a doctrine so radical a break from the Islam that most Muslims know that even the brother of Abdul-Wahab condemned his ideology. But the Saudis also spends hundreds of millions, if not billions, of oil-dollars each year on spreading their extremist form of Islam from the Muslim world, to Europe and America.
The New York Times recently noted a religious revival in among Muslims in Bosnia; Muslims make up 45% of Bosnians. Although this religious revival is benign for most Bosnian Muslims seeking solace in their faith, there is a worrying Wahhabi strain among some Bosniaks [Muslims Bosnians] that previously was not there.
The culprit is the $700 million invested in Bosnia by Saudi groups since the end of the early 1990s civil war. Most of this monoey has gone into building Mosques. But can Bosnian Muslims take the money and ignore the Wahhabi doctrine?
Yes, for the most part. The Grand Mufti [main Islam leader], Mustafa Efendi Ceric, in Bosnia is no Wahhabi who adheres to the Hanafi school of Islamic jurisprudence.
A study done by the University of Sarajevo on 600 Bosniaks recorded that 60% of them believe religious is a private matter. Most Bosniaks believe in the separation between “church” and state. And religious teaching was recently introduced into state primary schools, many Muslim parents protested at the idea of the state teaching Islam.

"Bosniak" is a post 9/11 reincarnated word they were called Bosnian Muslims

Religion has been the harbinger of violence since its creation. It has been used as an excuse to hurt or kill anyone and everyone in the god of your choosings name. Because of all these wars over money and beliefs we seem to have become desensitized to compassion. It is quite sad.

His wife probably became very western and he considered her an infidel; perhaps she even stopped believing in Allah.
Quranic verses that dictate beheading Kaffirs:
5:33-“The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution (by beheading), or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter;”
8:12- “I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off.”
47:4- “Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), strike off their heads; at length; then when you have made wide Slaughter among them, carefully tie up the remaining captives”: thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens.”
9:123: “Oh ye who believe! Murder those of the disbelievers and let them find harshness in you.”
2:191- “Kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from wherever they drove you out.”
5: 45-- “We ordained therein for them: “Life for life, eye for eye, nose for nose, ear for ear. Toth for tooth, and wounds equal for equal.”
2:193- “Fight them on until there is no more tumult and religion becomes that of Allah”
9:29- "Fight those who do not believe in God and the last day... and fight People of the Book, (Christian and Jews) who do not accept the religion of truth (Islam) until they pay tribute (Zizziya tax) by hand, being inferior.”
8:17-It is not ye who Slew them; it is God; when thou threwest a handful of dust, it was not Thy act, but God’s…..” (Allah is a real merciful indeed!)

I just wonder, what Awesome Josh's motive is.As long as this "axe man" does not try to use his religious believe as an excuse for his act of horror,he is "just" a disturbed ,insanely jealous nightmare of a husband or,in case he tries to justify his act because of his religion,he is a religion-fanatic,who does not understand how to live a truly religious life, respecting all other people and accepting the fact that nobody is perfect. This has absolutely nothing to do with Islam and I'm afraid that that's exactly what we are meant to believe.Hope I'm wrong, but I wonder.
-
as nordman has pointed out above, islam is a rather violent religion.
so in a way, it would seem this murderer was just following the rules.

Islam is just like any other religion, you get out of it what you bring in. If these Islamic Fundamentalists didn't have their twisted perversion of Islam they would probably find another reason to act horrendously.
-
Hi,night-diver,I'm a dutch guy, living in Amsterdam, and I'm an atheïst myself, but I have read several religious books, the bible, the koran, the talmud and some more and in my opinion, live and let live and everybody may believe whatever he wants or is educated with,as long as long as we accept each other and each other's believe,so basicaly,I'm a humanist. And as far that "violent religion"the Islam is concerned,it is not, what was written in a book,it is just how you interprete these "rules".Ther are as many "Islams"as ther are muslims and ther are as many christianities as their are christians. And the same is true about the jews, bhuddists etc.But one thing is true,at least in my opinion, religion is the origin of most misery and war in this world. But God,Allah,Jahweh,Shiva or whatever you may call him/her,has nothing to do with that, blame the people.

Here is another example of fundamentalist islamic intolerance:
From CNN:
Two men on a motorcycle used water pistols to spray acid on girls walking to school Wednesday in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, blinding at least two of them, military spokesmen said.
U.S. Col. Greg Julian said Afghanistan's National Military Command Center told him that four girls were hurt in the incident. Two were blinded and remain hospitalized, and two were treated and released, he said.
The men escaped after the attack, and no one claimed responsibility for it, but Arab-language network Al-Jazeera said Taliban militants were suspected to be responsible.
The incident occurred about 8 a.m. near Mirwais Nika Girls High School in the Meir Weis Mena district.
Kandahar government spokesman Parwaz Ayoubi gave different figures on the number of girls injured, saying six were burned, one of them severely. He called the attackers "enemies of education."
Girls were forbidden to attend school under the Taliban, which ruled the country from 1996 to 2001, when U.S.-led forces removed them from power. Watch reaction to the attack from U.S. first lady Laura Bush »
According to Al-Jazeera, the girls were attacked with battery acid. Two teenage sisters, one of whom suffered serious burns, were among the victims.
Ask yourself, "Why did these men do this?"
Personally, I believe they are trying to enforce Sharia law. Sharia Law is an interpretation of Allah's will by the Taliban and fundamentalist Islamic Imams (Preachers).
It all tracks back to someone's interpretation of the will of Allah.

First of all, I think all religions except Buddhism do humans more harm than good. Most intolerance comes from their teachings.
With that disclaimer I think this supposed peaceful religion is just as much to blame as those who commit barbaric crimes under its auspices. Yes, this guy was a nut-job and it's too bad that we can't preempt people like him is tragic but Islam is at the heart of most horrendous crimes such as this. If you argue this point you really don't know what you're talking about. Many Christian sects are as much to blame. All religion s including Islam that have not evolved with humans over the time are problematic and have NO place in our modern society!
Junk arguments that ANY mainstream religion is peaceful besides Buddhism are a wast of my time. Do your homework and study where most wars originate from - Religious intolerance plain and simple.
-
Despite the Ignorant comments on this subject, I am very proud to say that for the ones that know the truth- I am very proud to be on Current. Many still blame the religion and make it seem as if people practicing Islam are all to blame. But unlike other sites I have seen, many of you know and state the truth about the people either practicing Islam or associated with it. I very much appreciate that.

Conspiracy theory...
THEY (them, powers that be, puppet masters, etc) want strife in the middle east and everywhere, distraction from their sinister plots or way to make profit etc.
Guy comes along trying to promote understanding and whatnot, THEY attempt to get rid of him while reinforcing the stereotype that THEY introduced, behead his wife, plant the divorce and protection order (too convenient don't you think). Guy gets arrested, religion blamed, continued hate by all.
or not.
-
Another great example of islam being a very loving and tolerant religion.
-
This is so sick, mean, vicious and this S.O.B evidently hates women.
They should cut his D....k off before they execute him and saw it off very slow. That dirty pig. -
this is absolutely tragic.
-
We all hear about 'dishonor' as justification for revenge. Dishonor is mostly about 'perception.' One Moslem may certainly have a differing perception of honor from another. Allah's perception of dishonor may be vastly different from even the most devout, as Allah knows, and we do not.
So to assume that a slight to your pride is 'dishonor' in Allah's eyes, and justify revenge, well, simply encourages revenge. Just get a bunch of Mullahs who agree with you and bingo, God says it's OK,no, God says you 'must'
That's not a positive picture of a faith. In fact, some would say that it dishonors that faith. But I would not know, Allah does.
-
I am sorry to say this, because it may seem extremely insensitive to the compassionate side of Islam, but the way the Muslim world treats women, children and gays is the only justification that I need to go to war against such practices.
I am not talking about exporting American democracy, I am talking about enforcing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. If there ever was a justification for war, this would be the only noble one.
