The Myth of the Modern Minuteman or, are Gunophiles serious about the 2nd amdt. or are they LARPing?

I recently came across an internet post where gun lovers were seriously complaining that President Obama is a threat to American freedom because he wants to take away people's guns. Without even considering whether this accusation is true or not, I have a bigger question for gunophiles: Where the hell were you guys over the last eight years?

Gunophiles always claim they are the thin voluntary line between tyranny and freedom, the noble defenders of life, liberty and property. Yet the Bush Crime Family stole their (and all of our) savings right out from under us and never once did the modern-day Minutemen rise up. The "well-organized militia" that the Second Amendment promises failed to self-organize in a miraculous display of social emergence.

    • No, I'm saying that the author is not being intellectually honest with his readers. It's not like gun rights advocates slept during the Bush years. Plus the author is insinuating that all gun rights advocates are conservatives when that is nothing close to being true.

Perhaps you might want look at what is going on in the UK right now before you jump on the Obama/Emanuel gun grab bandwagon, or just admit that Obama is totally anti-gun no matter the circumstance and that you are ok with it.

What I am is against stupidity. I am less afraid that Obama will take my combat shotgun (loaded with 3 room clearing rounds, then flechet [sp?] rounds after that) than I am afraid of the damage that the Bush administration did to our civil rights.

I wonder if you even really read the article. The author notes where he is okay with some pro-gun stances. I think his point was, that when you don't have a job, a gun doesn't help. When you can't eat, a gun doesn't help. When you can't feed your family, a gun doesn't help (well, I guess you could shoot them and then they'll stop complaining...?)

The point is: guns aren't going to guarantee you freedom no matter how much gun-lovers insist it will. And of course they didn't sleep thru the Bush reign, but their guns weren't helpful.

    • wait...so your response is that it is okay to do nearly unmeasurable harm to the country as long as you're permitted to retain your guns????

perhaps you might want to review the concept, "pyrrhic victory."

    • Obama favors a handgun ban and Rahm Emanuel favors a communist style unarmed America complete with a National Civilian Security Force.

The thing about the second amendment is not to be gun crazy, but to defend yourself from a tryannical government.

The aurthor, not sure if it's you or not, seems to ignore the fact that Obama is a gun-grabber and is an anti-Constituionalist even though he is an alleged costitutional scholar.

So Bush or not, financial looting or not is pretty irrelevant.
