Diseased plants are responsible for serious losses to our crops. They are all more important in plantation crop as also those which are propagated vegetatively. Ever since the discovery of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) in 1892, over three hundred viruses attacking plants have been described. It is now known that damage caused by the plant viruses probably equals that due to all other diseases causing agents.

tobacco mosaic virus... the first virus known. only discovered because 'big' tobacco companies were loosing their product and they wanted to regain profits.
viruses are also what cause the yellowing and whitening in varigated species like tulups, pothos... many different house plant species... even roses.
I don't doubt that the plant kingdom may have more viruses than the animal kingdom... but most likely less than the kingdoms of bacteria. bacteriaphage, now that's a promising thing to study.
good post.
