GM says it will go belly-up in days without more US taxpayer bail-out
The dramatic warning from America's biggest car group came after its auditor, Deloitte, raised substantial doubts about its ability to continue operations as a going concern.
These alarm signals were contained in GM's 480-page annual report for 2008 to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, America's financial regulator. They further underline the parlous state of the global car industry.
GM has so far received $13.4bn (£9.5bn) in treasury loans and a further $1.6bn in other government loans. Today , effectively holding a gun to the government's head, it said it could default on this $15bn if it did not receive a further cash injection.
It is seeking a total of $30bn from the Obama administration after racking up $82bn of losses in the last three years, including $31bn last year.

15 billion didn't cover it??? WTF?? Let them fail!!! Boss Limbaugh and the Republican'ts want to cry "Socialism" over Obama's stimulus. Feeding public money to failing corporation is worst than Socialism. It's poorly executed Fascism!

time to stop feeding the machine..economic cars are what are needed and the bailout money would be better invested to create a new company that can actually serve the community..instead of sponging from it every time it goes down the pan by mis-management...

i say goodbye and good luck.
it's been real and it's been fun but it ain't be real fun.

Those bastards think they can get our money whether we buy their shit or not. I don't even drive.....why should my taxes pay for their ignorance! I guarantee that every penny they are begging for was handed out to its corporate upper class.

"So,$15billion?Well,it's a start, but we need more or we'll have to shut down."That's extortion, blackmail.Does anybody still know, how many automoblile factories there are, nowadays.?Wouldn't it be normal to let the economically weakest ones go broke?Isn't that the way,a capitalistic society works.?Why keep throwing money into a bottomless pit?

Quite a dilemma indeed. We can either bail out a once great American manufacturer (again), or see them fail, and take an untold number of jobs with them. I think the loss of employment is what will have the President concerned.
Like most of you, I could care less if we got rid of GM. What reliable, affordable car are we going to lose if they go under?
-
OK then, how about firing all upper level management & get a new bailed out GM to produce exclusively the best electric car on earth in 3 models, small urban, middle suburb, large tourismo... it should be easy since they already produced one... See : "Who Killed the Electric Car ?
Then create the best natural gaz truck on earth... Ample energy available right here in da good old USA http://www.naturalgas.org/
But to do that Big Oil would have to step aside & let America really be America, but that my friends is impossible & that is the real crux of da whole biscuit ;)
We are own by these interest, have been & will be for ever unless political power says enough is enough, but since all US politicians have to suck up for money to get elected... you know where that train of logic is taking us...
Nader is right, our system is broken, maybe beyond repair & we daily pay the price for a totally corrupted 'oilygarchy' designed to keep us all down for the profiteering happy few & with better results by the minute ;)

GM is in MEXICO????
When i was in Mexico last year a bunch of starving children came to me for money. In my compassion I was moved and gave them what I had. The next day they were back!! Shit I thought I had solved their problem.
Their "problem" it turns out, was they were stupid enough to choose parents who could not support them or their many brothers and sisters...now how stupid is that? We need to teach people to be smarter about choosing which parents to have and where to be born.
GM now has a family of hummers, 4X4 diesel trucks and SUVs that are starving to death .... and I already gave all the money I had. -
I reject this motion BUT.....
I hate to see them fail as MANY people will lose their jobs and businesses will close as a result. IF we were to provide them with MORE money, we need to get rid of the CEO and CFO and other higher ups and put someone else in charge, Its obvious that they dont know wtf their doing.

Government should initiate a progressive TAX credit to the individual buyer, who purchases a car w/ gas mileage over 30MPG, 40MPG, 50MPG, etc. This way the tax rebate/stimulus will go directly to the buyer(that is you) and the companies will be spurred towards producing cars that the public has some incentive to buy....(which means money and profits to them)
DUH!!!!!!freaking government can never find the simple solution. Every politician must have a picture of a toilet on their wall as inspiration for spending our tax dollars!!!
-
Too bad there wasnt more debate before bush threw all that money at the bad banks. At least a car company employs honest people, bailing them out is easier to swallow than throwing gobs of cash at AIG. However, I say let em restructure or whatever go bankrupt, sell some assets, get their shit in order, sell some skyskrapers, etc.... Dont give them more money, they shouldve asked for 30 in the beginning.

" Two passengers leaned against the ship's rail and stared at the sea. ' There sure is alot of water in the ocean' said one. ' Yes', answered his friend, ' we,ve only seen the top of it.'" George A . Miller ( 1962 )
The reason is simple - our recession is starting to unfold more even faster. The auto industry is getting ready to hit a trageic economical "perfect storm" to which they will most likely feel alot of the bite along with the housing crisis. Point is auto companies are mainly getting a Karma effect from this outcome. Too high priced loans people couldn't afford in the first place but was approved with a high intrest loan came back as " double negative " income for the auto industry as well as the housing market
By doing the math - we are throwing away money by giving the auto industried , and also the insurance industries bailout funds if their quarterly earnings are still going negative. Yeah, you can say that by keep giving them money over and over again, they will stand up on their own, they will not without the biggest consumer contributing to their business - us, the taxpaying people - a good 305 million of americans...
-
I say United States Citizens and Workers Unions take over companies and FIRE every GM employee at the company who hasn't been profitable. Then I'd change GM's business strategies according to what will help our nation and the individual at the same time.
