The geopolitical fact of Iraq

Porter: The US will have to leave Iraq to a government that tilts more to Iran than to the US. Part 3

Speaking of President Obama's withdrawal plan from Iraq, Paul Jay talks to Gareth Porter, investigative historian and journalist on Iran-Iraq relations. Porter says that in spite of the U.S. efforts to create a U.S. - friendly regime, "Iraq is going to be under a Shi'ite government which leans more towards Iran than towards the United States. That's a geopolitical fact that all the U.S. troops in the world are not going to change."

What's going on with the amusement park in the Green Zone? I don't know why nothing ever gets a follow up. Everyone's in the NOW and pays no attention to six or eight months ago. What is really happening there? Maybe it's a haven and we could be traveling there instead of Aruba!
Looks very nice to me. How does that work?
I wonder how they would welcome tourists. People would say things like "Oh I don't care for the cities, I like to go to the little towns and be with the real people." Laughs aside, what is our goal and is it okay with them?

I've just begun reading the updated edition of John R. Macarthur's "Second Front: Censorship and Propaganda in the 1991 Gulf War." In it he demonstrates how the U.S. media not only failed to challenge government and military leaders, but actually became actively and often deliberately complicit in replacing truth with fantasy and propaganda. The whole process was ramped up and refined for this two-front war. That's why independent journalism like that provided by Real News and Democracy Now is so important.

Where would we be without the committed vigilance of Vierotchka?

My answer: far dumber, more easily fooled and worse off for the lack of not knowing the reasons for her viewpoint.

    Thank you, Vierotchka!
