As the 10th anniversary of the Institute of Medicine's historic report recognizing marijuana's value as a medicine approaches, medical marijuana patients and advocates are celebrating remarkable progress that has accelerated rapidly in recent months. A decade after the report's release on March 17, 1999, medical marijuana supporters see policy finally beginning to match scientific reality.

Only 10 years ? You can tell that the researchers themselves weren't doing the substance. Because if they were they'd be shouting it from the rooftops with megaphones until, like U2, they made a music video about it in Golden Gate Park instead of on a rooftop in L.A., with such a concerted effort that it made the California equivalent of C span. Have you ever seen the classic movie " Monkey Business " starring Cary Grant and Marylyn Monroe ? It might have turned out like that. Or it might have turned out like that scene in the TV series Son of the Beach (spoofing Baywatch) where Tim talks of overcoming his phobia to surf his dream wave called me so hony (from the 2 Live Crew music video)because people have used it with great success as an aphrodisiac for eons. But anyway you look at it, it would have come much, much sooner if the researchers weren't so cooly objective and clinical about it. Have you ever heard of an English writer named Aldous Huxley ? He wrote an epic documentary about his personal experience with
organic Peyote cactus Mescaline. His book was entitled " The doors of perception " He didn't need
any clinical researchers. And because he was a direct connect, he influenced Jim Morrison to call his psychedelic rock group "The Doors" I saw the Doors in concert in 1967, and they were everything they said they were. Those guys were so awe inspired that their music was that of traveling Journalists who tripped then composed & played. Forgive me if I sound unduely critical. It's because I've been waiting 40 years for this sentiment to finaly catch on. It's like a bubble of air that had to travel from the deepest depths in the Oceans-only in slow motion- for people in charge to finaly wake up. And even now, if the world wasn't in the deepest fiancial crisis in 80 years would they even propose the med marijuana approach unless they had a financial interest with which to gain relief from it. Again I apologize for being cynical. But they've been studying it to death since the LaGuardia commission nearly 80 years ago. 10 years might not seem like too much time compared to 80 years, but like mollasas in a deep freeze, it's been way to slow in its outpouring.
