Civil Unrest in America?

Eurasia is currently experiencing serious problems derived from financial and economic difficulties such as unemployment, GDP negative growth, currency depreciation, overall economic slowdown and so on. Several members of both the European Union and NATO (Poland, Hungary, Iceland come to mind) are already dealing with a considerable deal of domestic discontent. Some States from the Former Soviet Union (notably Ukraine, Belarus and the Central Asian Republics) and even Russia itself are facing similar problems. Even Chinese government officials acknowledge protests in the Chinese mainland, as pointed out by Professor Michael Klare, which means that East Asia is by no means an exception. As we shall see, financial and economic conditions are equally grave in the American hemisphere, if not more so.Zbigniew Brzezinski, former National Security Advisor and early supporter of Barack Obama's presidential campaign, has warned that civil unrest on American soil is a possibility that should not be dismissed. Brzezinski explains that "[the United States is] going to have millions and millions of unemployed, people really facing dire straits. And we’re going to be having that for some period of time before things hopefully improve. And at the same time there is public awareness of this extraordinary wealth that was transferred to a few individuals at levels without historical precedent in America..." Brzezinski concludes with this noteworthy remark "...hell, there could be even riots".

Again the Prophets of the Obviously Possible have spoken up to warn us about what could be if things get worse.
Thanks for pointing out what everyone already knows.

Welcome to the 1960's and 1970's. civil unrest was a daily occurence as protestors took on the VIet Nam war and other causes. People did not have the internet or talk radio to voice their concerns so took to the streets to be heard.
I would love to read more about the transfer of wealth to a few individuals being historic because it was pretty big in the 1800's when the industrial revolution was in full swing.

There will be mass civil unrest. The media is employed to help bring this about. You will be fed information as you are able to process it. It is planned. For once you take to the streets, we shall take you off of them. If you shall take to arms, we shall remove them. If you shall dissent, we shall clear your throat. This is the Will of the Chosen.

I don't think we'll be seeing anything as insane as even the 1960's.
Americans, generally speaking, are not as violent in their domestic lives as they used to be. Look at the May Day attacks by the LAPD or any recent outbreak of violence at a protest.
Most citizens try to be civil, even in the face of atrocious oppression.
Plus the police have been gearing up on anti-riot action for a while. They made it clear in the '60's that they don't tolerate rioting, even if it's righteous.
In short, no, I don't think there will be riots in America. Not unless things get much, much worse and Americans really start to feel like they need to attack their government. That's not an impossibility, but it seems really unlikely from where I stand.
