Whistle blower site WikiLeaks has exposed a secret blacklist of web pages it believes the Australian government is considering permanently filtering from the internet.

The list of some 2,395 web pages, the authenticity of which the Australian authorities dispute, includes the usual suspects of sites pertaining to child pornography, extreme violence and even bestiality. But not all the sites are offensive, and include links to rank-and-file pornography, YouTube videos, poker sites, WikiLeaks entries and even URLs to a Queensland dentist and dog-boarding kennel.

Do you think censorship is the way forward or is the Australian government simply waving a red flag at a bull?

    • I am 100% opposed to censorship, it is just too dangerous.

This is not always an easy position to stick to though, there are some very sick puppies out there.

    • I agree - There are certainly some offensive websites listed there that i believe should be banned in all countries. WHO WILL BE THE WEB POLICE?

    • Wow, talk about old, out of date and irrelevant the bill that would have allowed the Rudd government to enact this as law died weeks ago.

    • "Censorship is not always negative"

      Wrong.

Censorship, the idea someone other than your good self has the right to filter what you see and hear, is always an abhorrent idea.

Child porn is illegal because it is rape, it does not need censorship laws brought against it, it's already a crime against much worse laws.

The idea that that snivelling little prick Kevin Rudd has some sort of Moral Authority over the rest of Australia is ludicrous.

However banning a dental practice? I could understand that if it was a phishing site but if its legit, surely they need to apply some common sense?
