2009 Coldplay-Off: Round 1 Game 15- (8) Peter Gabriel vs (9) Peter Cetera // Current

Our final game in the first round of the Bands that Coldplay Ripped Off is a bit of an odd one, but hear us out. It’s Peter Cetera vs Peter Gabriel—yup, the battle of the Peters. Granted, hearing Coldplay in Peter Gabriel may not be obvious at first, but listen to it, and play around with the key a little in your head, and it starts to get more obvious. Plus Peter jumps on a bicycle and rides it around the stage as he sings starting at 1:15, and that is just plain awesome.

As for the Peter Cetera song, you know in 15 years, you could just drop Chris Martin in for Cetera with the exact same orchestra, the exact same crowd, and the exact same feeling of self-importance, and no one would no the difference

Vote below in the comment section for you who think Coldplay aped the most, and they will move on to the next round. Also, don’t be afraid to throw in a “sweep the leg” joke.

- I'm sick of Coldplay haters, just get a life. And btw it's not called ripping off, it's call a musical influence. Like painters will influence painters, or poets to writers, maybe photographers will influence a short film.

- i think this should be decided NOT by which artist coldplay ripped off, but instead by which movie probably inspired coldplay's style. last i remember, tom cruise's "vanilla sky" featured solsbury hill. Meh. But glory of love was made into a hit partly by the movie karate kid II! Badow! Wax on, wax off. Cetera wins, by way of ralph machio.

- Gabriel really does take it for being the better musician, but I really can see Chris Martin aging into being Cetera. Also, am I the only one that thinks Cetera looks like Johnny from the Karate Kid? Go Cobras!

- Peter Gabriel wins at everything *ever*. At musicianship, at staging, at bicycles, at being awesome...at inspiring Coldplay? That's a no-brainer. Chris Martin just wanted to be able to put "hippie incense massage" in his tour rider, too.
