But as the required meetings and calls with FEMA and DHS continue over a two year period their request become more unusual, raising suspicions of county officials

We’re just laying it all out for them right there.”
During the legally mandated meetings held with FEMA and DHS different disaster scenarios were reveled to county officials:
In late December 2008 municipal officials were invited to Indianapolis for a briefing on the state of Indiana. There were told if industry were to collapse for example GM going bankrupt resulting in mass unemployment a depression would soon follow and municipalities could expect to loose 40% of their funds.

I usually don't buy into things like this but as we spiral downward, there is no quick fix. There could be anarchy as people lose everything, then they have nothing to lose.
Just look at other countries, even UK, though peaceful, have been denied to withdraw their money from banks, denied free speech. The whole damn world is in self-destruct mode. Don't think it can't happen Slarabee. I have always believed in "Murphy's Law" and it never fails. "If it CAN happen, it WILL happen".
Never before has the whole world been so small that we watch each other's every move. Science Fiction might turn reality.

I don't know how to feel about this. FEMA wasn't prepared for New Orleans, so now they're preparing in case something happens in Chicago. It feels a little marshal-law big-brotherish. But, in a wierd sort of way, it's comforting to know they're "prepared" if something happens.

When is this martial law going to happen? There was speculation it was before Obama's presidency, during inauguration, and within a couple weeks of inauguration.

I guess I shouldn't have dismissed this as stupid without explaining why it is borderline brain dead.
There are an estimated 223+ million firearms owned by private citizens in the US. That number does not take into account unregistered weapons handed down from generation to generation or illegal weapons.
Beyond the constitutional ramifications there is the fact that US military commanders are have no desire for long term military operations on American soil against American citizens. The troops are not trained for such operations and the issues of moral and troop control would be nearly unmanageable.
Lastly I wonder where in the hell all these chicken little the sky is falling idiots were when the Bush/Cheney administration was ordering the OLC to write memorandums justifying martial law and suspension of habeas corpus and how it is that they do not notice that the Obama Administration has made those documents public as a means to begin to roll back thse abuses of power.
I tell you what you do. go hide in your basement and clean your guns, but do the world a favor; when it all gets to be just to damn confusing for your tired mind to handle don't run around shooting innocent people that you think are liberal communist socialist fascists just take a deep breath, put the gun to your head and pull the trigger. The world will most certainly be a better place for your sacrifice.

I don't think it's constructive to try and debate these types of issues. People who believe, will never change their position, and those like slarabee, will never become "believers".
There's never been (or at least I haven't been witness to) any conversation between these two types of people, that ended with everyone just agreeing to disagree.
No, it always turns ugly, with name-calling, angry tones and personal attacks.
My suggestion is for people like slarabee to just pass over these types of reports and read/comment on something else.
If you don't like comic books, don't go to a comic book convention and start pointing out how absurd some people look to you. (NO, I'm NOT trying to compare people who like comics to people who subscribe to topics such as the topic being presented in this news story.)
Bottom line, people should be free to post any story they want, and others should be free to comment or not. But, we're all presented with several opportunities to fight everyday, without even looking up from our daily tasks. Life is too short to waste time running around looking for someone to pick a fight with.
