This is bullshit. Twitter is genius.
I like how Connor points nothing pathetic examples of the media outlets that use twitter.

I'm really not liking how some of the shows on Current that usually make me laugh have been taking 'cheap shots' (for lack of a better term) at things that have a public following.

Twitter can be useful. I use it to keep updated on the music that's coming to my town, to receive a heads up
on early ticket sales, I get updates on new album releases- and the best thing of all- I discover A LOT of new music through twitter.

Rather than having to go to all sorts of different websites to find out about stuff, I can just go to my Twitter page. It's much more convenient. Last night I saw a concert (Los Campesinos) that I had totally forgotten about. But luckily the Venue is in my follower list and they posted about the event! Twitter is Great.

Also would have missed the U.S men's soccer match. But again Twitter Saves The Day. Got a reminder and updates.

So my point- Twitter is whatever you make it, Connor.

P.S. I'm going to see The Hip Hop Olympics tonight. It's fun event event in my town.
?uestlove (yes, the Roots) will be a guest judge. THANK YOU TWITTER. If not for you I would not have known about this.

Sorry, out of 12 people at the precinct nobody even knows about Twitter. It's another one of those fades.

That was very well-edited and tight reporting.

I don't understand the whole craze, but it hardly strikes me as something I would want to try. However, I will bet it could be really addictive. People are more likely to read what you write if it's only a few words, but no one wants to put the time into a blog. And who doesn't want to Tweet Rick Sanchez?

Insipid. I will bet most of it is insipid.

Twitter is a fun way to see what your friends are up to but 140 is not enough space for a thoughtful comment on a important issue. It is unnecessary for these media outlets to use it. It's just another gimmick for the 24 hour news networks.

I greatly dislike Twitter, so much that I get more than a bit annoyed when it is mentioned in newscasts. I loved the piece though, cracked me up. It's great that some people have found it useful (hope that Los Campesinos! concert was fun, wouldn't want to miss that). However, to me, it seems like a complete waste of time. I don't like constant updates on what people I don't care about (or even people I do care about) are doing. Just not interested. As far as discovering new music and keeping up with local concerts, I receive monthly and weekly newletter subscriptions about those.

The Social Collider reveals cross-connections between conversations on Twitter.

    Full image: http://ctngreen.com/2009/mar/?page=66

With the Internet's promise of instant and absolute connectedness, two things appear to be curiously underrepresented: both temporal and lateral perspective of our data-trails. Yet, the amount of data we are constantly producing provides a whole world of contexts, many of which can reveal astonishing relationships if only looked at through time.

This experiment explores these possibilities by starting with messages on the microblogging-platform Twitter. One can search for usernames or topics, which are tracked through time and visualized much like the way a particle collider draws pictures of subatomic matter. Posts that didn't resonate with anyone just connect to the next item in the stream. The ones that did, however, spin off and horizontally link to users or topics who relate to them, either directly or in terms of their content.

The Social Collider acts as a metaphorical instrument which can be used to make visible how memes get created and how they propagate. Ideally, it might catch the Zeitgeist at work. http://socialcollider.net/

Get over it, Twitter is here to stay and effective. I and thousands use it daily for various reasons. Some people do not use e-mail, and some never take a vitamin either but for those who do it is a free country. In fact I do read some news from Twitter I would not be exposed to in my limited local market. Stop in and follow me there @figstreetstudio, see how active a community it is.

Good report. Don't see the hype either.

It appears we have entered the early majority stage of the social media lifecycle. Politians and traditional media are talking about "new media web2.0" so the innovators have already moved on to the next big thing while early adopters are letting out loud collective sigh knowing that for a long time into the future people will still be commenting have you got a Twitter account?
