VICTORIA, B.C. — About 10 per cent of older-model Tasers tested in B.C. have failed to meet the manufacturer's specifications and will be destroyed or repaired and re-tested before going back into service.

The B.C. Solicitor General's Ministry said Thursday the government pulled 82 stun guns being used by municipal police forces and provincial corrections staff out of service last December. The testing program also covered Tasers used by the provincial sheriff's service and transit police.

"Taser testing was done in the interest of public and officer safety after independent testing suggested a few of the Tasers were giving out a greater electrical charge than expected by the manufacturer's specifications," the ministry said in a statement.
