The ashes of James “Kit” Carson, 83, were placed on a wagon pulled by the world's tallest mule in Saturday's parade.Carson, who was a trainer of Tennessee walking horses, always wanted to ride in the Mule Day parade but never got the chance.
Carson died in May, having outlived his family and many of his friends. His obituary listed no detail about funeral services or survivors. His ashes went unclaimed and were eventually turned over to Signature Healthcare nursing home, where he spent the last years of his life.
Little is known about Carson, a Michigan native, other than he enjoyed Mule Day and was an animal lover and avid bingo player.
