“Unfortunately, today, a bag of heroin can be cheaper than a 6 pack of beer,” said John Gilbride, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Agency’s New York Field Division.
Heroin is now more potent than ever, up to 70% pure, compared to 10% just a few years ago.

Maybe it is cheaper but it is NOT as much fun. I mean, when is the last time you heard a country song about crying in your heroin?
-
That is your opinion dankitti. Many people enjoy a tear in there beer and a little powder in there spoon. What this is saying is about accessibility. Cost versus effect. five is cheaper than beer or cigs.that should frighten people.

The powers that be have been too busy LYING about the so called "dangers" of cannibis, the last 70+ years, to tell the TRUTH about drugs that really ARE deadly...
Big Oil & Pharms could care less about Heroin, it doesn't impact their profit margins! -
Follow the money Sherlock ;)
Aghanistan now supplies over 90 percent of the world’s heroin, generating nearly $200 billion in revenue. Since the U.S. invasion on Oct. 7, 2001, opium output has increased 33-fold (to over 8,250 metric tons a year).
"When the history of U.S. involvement in Afghanistan is written, Washington's sordid involvement in the heroin trade and its alliance with drug lords and war criminals of the Afghan Communist Party will be one of the most shameful chapters."

If we were to legalize Cannabis and made it cheaper maybe these kids wouldn't turn to Heroin! Where I live there is a huge teen Heroin problem and nobody seems to care! here its all about the so-called "gateway" drugs like tobacco, alchohol, and cannabis! Why? maybe because its easier to deal with for these groups that deal with teens! They Ignore it! meanwhile KIDS are dying!
-
A REAL WINNER OF A CON JOB !
Keeps them youngsters away from political awareness/activism or in jail... are real winner indeed !

great . but you still have to go into the 'hood to get the shit , unless you just happen to know someone who'll score for you , and who isn't scamming you . too many headaches .
-
But people don't realize that it's cheap for one dose but then when you come down you need another dose. Sometimes continuing this cycle until they can't even afford one dose. It's not cheap. It's like the price of beer. One beer is cheap, a keg. Not cheap.

Perhaps the cost is so low because no one is buying.
I'm a teenager, and the only thing teens do is weed. Heroin is, in my opinion, something I don't see my (older) friends start doing til they are WAY older, like past college kinda thing. And weed is somewhat a "gateway drug", but not every single person goes down that path.
So why is this article targeting teenagers?
I know that's not the point, that the article is meant to cause great concern, but don't worry about the teenagers. Worry about the ADULTS, since adults are the ones hooked to this stuff, and running our world.
No need to call out "teenagers". Sheez. -
I like this part best:
Do you think the United States should legalize drugs?
No way 11%
Yes, all drugs 49%
Only marijuana 40% -
Dmass5, I can only speak for myself, but I don’t think legalizing all drugs is the proper course for America. I think the whole discussion about all drugs being legalized is a distraction from the responsible conversation we should be having today. Cannabis ‘laws’ are a problem unto themselves. Cannabis is not the problem, it’s the distortion of facts, which is the problem. Lies should not be used to perpetuate a war. Yet that is exactly how the war on cannabis is being fought.
Jack Herer has posted a treasure trove of cannabis hemp facts. How can you fight a war and not cover facts? Why should facts be ignored and lies be perpetuated? Ronald Reagan once stated:
"I now have absolute proof that smoking even one marijuana cigarette is equal in brain damage to being on Bikini Island during an H-bomb blast". No one challenged his statement. No one told ordinary Americans it was a lie? Ronald Reagan was able to lie in ‘plain sight’ and no one held him accountable. Today, many people now lie in ‘plain sight’ and we just move along. That’s just wrong. People should not be able to blatantly knowingly lie! It’s time for honesty to prevail. It’s time for a real cannabis conversation. Not a distracted conversation about legalizing all drugs. That’s the problem today, cannabis is being lumped in with hard drugs, based on lies, not facts. -
Heroin is up because the WAR in Afganistan...why do you think theres more heroin on the streets...Just like the CIA bringing coke over from cloumbia...
