An American blogger in Saudi Arabia bought her son a copy of Kate Perry’s album One of the Boys only to find out the incredible process Saudi cops go through to censor partial nudity.

"The Saudi government is actually paying religious police members of the Committee for the Protection of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (CVPVP) to remove the plastic wrap from these CDs, open up the CD cases, remove the front and back inserts, and carefully and painstakingly color in with a marker any photos baring exposed female flesh that is deemed objectionable."

    • Yep the Saudis have really got the right idea, when it comes to Katy Perry, that is. They should just ban her entire existence in the country. Every country should.

    • That is awesome that they are armed with magic markers i wonder if they colour coordinate the clothing with the markers.

Would it not just be easier to have seperate covers for music imported into these areas? Is that possible?

And as Abbym0308 says above, what about the people responsible for the cover up? That's either the best job you could get over there to see all that flesh or it's a bit of a strain. Do you think they only do it for a certain amount of time like the Police that work on Child porn cases? I heard somewhere they only work for like 6 months in that field because of the disturbing nature and are offered counseling at the end of the assignment.

    • That seems entirely inefficient and a huge waste of money. I understand that exposed skin goes against Saudi cultural and religious tastes, but magic markers? Really? The blogger makes an interesting point about all the men who have to sit there and draw over this exposed flesh, day in and day out... what must be going through their minds?
