MTV goes...Current?

New programming on the music network will include more substance, fewer socialites...maybe. Sort of.For example:
"[A] new reality program, “T.I.’s Road to Redemption,” shows a troubled rapper helping keep children on the straight and narrow. Nick Lachey, the former boy band star who was married to Jessica Simpson, his co-star on the MTV program “Newlyweds,” is producing “Taking the Stage,” a reality show about a performing arts school in Cincinnati. A finishing school show, “From G’s to Gents,” tries to transform homeboys into gentlemen — or at least get them to cover their tattoos — with the help of Fonzworth Bentley, who was Sean Combs’s valet."
Sounds a little like a network we know. But will it help save the troubled MTV? And does anyone really want anything other than more music videos on that network anyway?

Uhhhhmmm...I what ways is this any where close to Current? I am sorry! Current wins! I am sick of those stupid so called reality shows! MTV was once a music network & last I checked they aren't changing to RTV or STV any time soon! & under their logo is the slogan "Music television" MTV execs. should be shoot for ever considering taking their music programs off the air! We want the music back MTV! & not just some dumb rappers ether! I want to be seeing multi genre smarter programs! THAT is what makes Current WAAAAAAAAAAY different!!! Current has watchable shows! MTV doesn't have anything worth caring about aside from the Video Music Awards which are fast becoming something I need a translator for!

HA! Exactly Shana. I quit watching MTV when they quit showing videos. VH1 was a substitute (kinda, sorta) but I don't think they are going to compete with current :-)

Mike_Johnston:
we have been talking about whether there's a way to incorporate actual music videos into Current's new music show -- it's never been part of what we did (other than featuring clips as b-roll) but there are so few outlets for them!
the most frequent comment I get externally when talking about the network, actually, is that the shuffle schedule "is like MTV used to be, when it was good." we all miss those days, i think.

I like the basic VJ format. Just like a streaming video show with music videos. listener participation via text or call in too, It isn't hard to do. Then again some interviews and live shows would be cool.

From G's to Gents is hardly comparable to programming on Current. Sorry MTV, Current still wins.

Judging from the descriptions of these three new MTV formats, it doesn't sound anything like Current.
The now-defunct MTV Flux, on the other hand, was a real Current rip-off!
