As the US reports its first known death from the global swine flu, the World Health Organization has raised its pandemic threat level. Several countries around the world have banned the import of US and Mexican pork products. We speak to professor and author Robert Wallace, who says the swine flu is partly the outcome of neoliberal policies that forced poorer countries to open their markets to poorly regulated Western agribusiness giants.

    I have to agree with this. Monsanto wouldn't be there either and their GM corn wouldn't have transgenically polluted all of the corn varieties of Mexico if not for NAFTA. We have done quite a bit to ruin the lives of farmers in Mexico and bring on more poverty, and now, diseases. There were supposed to be environmental standards attached to NAFTA. What environmental standards? The standard to pollute at will?

    all skeptics and conspiracy theorists (and everyone else for that matter): please just cover your mouth when you cough, wash your hands frequently, and voluntarily quarantine yourself in your home if you (god forbid) get sick.
