Check out the images of the newly isolated H1N1 influenza virus (or swine flu, if you want to get all colloquial about it). It's amazing how technology has reduced the amount of time it takes before even government agencies are willing to share information about emerging illnesses.

- This is a picture taken by an electron microscope - a very common way of looking at things smaller than our cells. It's interesting, but doesn't really tell us much about the difference between this virus and the normal seasonal fu virus...to see that, you would have to see a very boring nucleic acid sequence...don't you prefer the pretty picture?

- In my opinion the swine flu is a man-made virus that just causes people to go and get a vaccine and keep money in the pockets of the people that are in the medical field.

  In some ways, it is "man-made", inasmuch as we have made exploded in population and have encroached on nature in a very unnatural way. There are better things to be pessimistic about, this isn't a healthy one :)
