Connie Culp was shot by her husband in the face in a murder-suicide attempt. She says that she realizes that the media wants to focus on her but that she would prefer to focus on the generosity and strength of the donor family. I posted this because I know some people think that all plastic surgery is bad or that facial reconstruction surgery is cosmetic. The article explains that the surgery was just the first of many that Connie needs to restore function. Because of this surgery she is now able to smell and taste- two thing that seem small but life seem bland without them.

I think that this technology is amazing, given that 80 years ago the only options for patients like Ms.Culp was a crude mask that only covered their injury and did nothing to improve function. What do y'all think?

    • I think that a story like this makes people think about the complexity of life. The way we have evolved to be able to re-construct someone's face or body is amazing. There is no real limit to what we can do scientifically; changing lives for the better and improving people's hopes.

I think Ms. Culp's attitude towards the situation shows that she is someone who deserves good treatment, to bring her life back to her.

    • i love it when we use our minds to help the needy instead of finding more ways to kill each other. The leaps in technology in my life time are really amazing and fill me with hope.
