3-D glasses and French cinephiles may not mix. Or, "Up" opens Cannes and people feel weird about it
The audience -- the people around us, anyway -- seemed to enjoy the movie as it played, laughing at the comedic turns, clenching up at the action scenes and shedding a tear (beneath their 3-D glasses) during the wonderfully effective melancholy moments.
But the post-screening response -- an overused but accurate gauge -- was noticeably tempered. The continuous waves of ovation that can last five or 10 minutes when an audience really loves a Cannes film (especially an opening-night one), didn't happen."

Pfff, whatever Cannes. Cannes isn't America. Up will probably do just fine here if it deserves it. Frankly, it looks ADORABLE and I want to see it. Fat kids and old people ROCK.

Well it' the first animated film ever to open Cannes, so it was probably disappointing compared to your typical Palme d'Or material.

personally i'm looking forward to "9". cute CGI movies are nice and all but i want to see what can really be done with CG for a more mature audience. yes i know, advent children, spirits within etc, but really i dont think enough has been done with exploring the media for different genres. how about a silent hill 1 movie done in CG?
