I remember my first credit card vividly. As a freshman at the University of Georgia, I signed up for an MBNA credit card, mainly to get the t-shirt that was a give away for filling out the application. However, since I was away at school, credit cards were also one of the “grown up” items that I wanted to add to my repertoire.
Regardless, that same credit card sits in my wallet today, with the inscription “Member since 94”. That credit card has been a lifesaver at times, and the object of intense hatred at others. Nevertheless, I learned a tremendous amount about what to do, and what not to do with a line of credit. Those experiences were a part of growing up for me.
