Oxford University's first Professor of Poetry, Ruth Padel, has stepped down when it emerged she may have (albeit accidentally, according to her) passed on compromising information to journalists regarding her main rival for the position, Derek Walcott. This makes her not only the first woman to hold the position, but also the first to resign.
