Why do I get the impression that this is yet another example of the disappearing Palestinians? Why did Obama bother to have a meeting with Abbas if no one in the US media has any interest in anything he thinks? Admittedly, the Israelis have done their best to render Abbas impotent and politically irrelevant, which may explain part of the reason there was so little to report from this event.
At any rate, the same article did contain lots of interesting information – about the US approach to settlements. The Israelis are finding themselves like prey caught by a boa constrictor. Over time, there is less and less breathing room concerning settlements. Obama is shutting off every "out" that Israelis have been used to enjoying from previous administrations. For a peace advocate like myself, the process is a miracle to behold:

You bet they're upset. For over 40 years, presidents have nodded and winked at Israeli settlement expansion. In 1993, at the time of Oslo, there were 200,000 settlers. Now there are 400,000. I can remember back in the 1970s when Ariel Sharon spoke in oracular terms of 100,000 settlers and we thought he was out of his mind. Little did we know he was crazy like a fox.
But thank God, there will be no more winking or nodding. The Obama administration means business. In a battle between an 18-foot boa constrictor and its prey, there can be little doubt who will eventually win. Not that I mean to carry this analogy to its logical conclusion. The US isn't going to swallow and digest Israel. Rather it is going to squeeze the life out of the notion that settlements are a viable proposition for Israel. If Israelis won't kill this notion off themselves, then Obama is going to lend a hand and drive the stake through the monster's heart.

it's funny to see the little professor acting like he can dictate to Israel like he lectures to wussy american groupies. Just more evidence of how out of touch he is with the real world

This is why we elected him. To show cowards like Netanyahoo, they cannot ask America to allow them to do whatever they want any longer. Good Post Bumped Up

Netanyahu is the last man I would call a coward. He sees reality and will do whatever is required to protect Israel, with or without the US.

Thank my Christian God for this.

Netahyahoo is a coward along with his followers for sure. Anyone who kills innocent people to steal thier land is a coward. If Israhell would make a geture of peace instead of killing people maybe we would have peace over there. America must pull its backing of Israhell until Israhell can show it is civilized, intrested in peace, pulls out the illegal settlements, stop the Aparthied, Genocide and Terrorism, and let the refugees return as well as return the stolen land. Hold your ground Obama. Nice job Obama, hold these killers responsible, statring with NETAYAHOO!

Robroy, Israel left Gaza as a gesture of peace, along with a functioning greenhouse business Jews built for several million bucks as a source of income. The Palestinians destroyed it.
Israel Leaves Gaza; Arabs Rush to Burn Synagogues
by Hillel Fendel(IsraelNN.com) "38 years of presence in Gaza have come to an end.
Gen. Aviv Kokhavi, commander of the Gaza Formation, said at the conclusion of the retreat, "From now on, the responsibility for what goes on in Gaza is in the hands of the Palestinian Authority; the responsibility for Israeli citizens remains in the hands of the IDF."
Just this morning, a Kassam rocket was fired at the Negev border city of Sderot; no one was hurt.

Deir Yassin and the Human Rights
1948 was a special year. It was marked by Plan D, the Israeli plan to ethnically cleanse Palestine. (5) Jewish troups expelled about 700,000 people from the indigenous population of the country and killed many of the men in combat age. Even in 1936, after the Palestinian revolt, the Palestinian elite had been persecuted. This was shortly after the first Palestinian party was founded which was to represent the interests of the native population in the two fronts struggle against the British occupation and the Zionist conquerers. "Punishments" like the demolition of residence houses were firstly used by the British and were adopted later by the Zionists. In 1948, several Jewish terror groups were known, like the Haganah, Irgun, the Stern gang, Lechi and others. They killed, took the land away from the local people and later contributed several prime ministers who were accepted by the world public without any difficulty - very similar to today.
Don't think that the pogroms against the population of Palestine during the execution of Plan D were secret. When the future Prime Minister Menachem Begin had the Arab village of Deir Yassin attacked on April 9 and many of its inhabitants killed (certainly including children and women) in order to terrorize and horrify the people, this was covered in the world press. Begin defended his deed with a typical Israeli bonmot: "The massacre of Deir Yassin not only had its justification – without the 'victory' of Deir Yassin there had never been a State of Israel." (6) Four years later, the same Begin attempted to kill the German chancellor Adenauer (7) and in 1978 he received the Nobel Peace Prize.
