Susan Boyle and the almost 24 hr media coverage of her was yet one more distraction of the public by the msm (main stream media).

The economy is in the toilet, the pharmaceutical corps and chemical corps have a free pass to kill us, the WAR is not over in Iraq or Afghanistan, healthcare limps along, education in America produces some of the most shallow, illiterates in the world; but Susan Boyle is an average woman who can SING! Well, thank the gods for that one!!! That's gonna save my family from living in a box and having to pick though garbage cans for dinner!

Now the poor woman is in a psyche ward. I guess it's back to botox speciman no. 48's failed love triangle or, perhaps, yet another "reality" show entity being billed as a "star" (ie Brett Michael's house of white trash, America's next top botox specimen, "I Have 8 Children Through No Fault of My Own and NOw I'm on the TV").

These people in the media chatter have no discernable talent, no reason for being on TV and are a waste of the public's attention.

Ms. Boyle, at least, has talent. But she was just the flavor of the week and obviously is not stable enough to hold up an entire career. In a way, can you blame her for not wanting to? Look at the garbage they promote as talent and expect her to behave in the same way!!!!

If you went crazy after someone started stalking your every move because you became famous for doing currenttv, which is unlikely, you would want some pity. Its quite sad, really, that most people who liked this clip would not help you. Because just like you said you chose to "try" to become famous.

Anywho I thought she sang great unlike William Hong and I should know, I saw him sing live and he was of course horrible at American Idol....
I hope she is OK..... I do feel sympathy for her because she can actually sing......Another reason is for the sympathy is that she never got a chance since she was to ugly or something (which appearance shouldn't matter however in our society it does "sex sells" or a sad story)
I never really watched BGT except Susan Boyle segment and man the look on everyone's face after she sang it was priceless almost like she slap everyone with doo doo... She got the last laugh!

Also, even thou she get to be a multimillion because she got talent... and you don't so you have to spoil other people's thunder......
AHHAH that last part was useless why include it if you didn't even know who won..... Dance crew are so last year i think I should know since I live in irvine and all everyone does here is dance.... I think ABDC was overrate it should have been an underground thing...

Wow, this rant has really riled some people. I don't really understand this whole Susan Boyle hysteria myself. She has a very lovely voice, but truth be told there are many out there like her. It was nice that she got some time in the limelight though, I hope it was overall a positive experience and that she can get out before it gets too negative.

But seriously this rant wasn't so much about Susan Boyle as it was about the narrative the media has created around her. The media has spun this story into a pity fest, and it's a bit silly. So she didn't win? Big flippin' deal, she came in second AND got way more publicity than the group who won. She won the fame game and really that's all these types of reality tv shows are about anyway.

Ms. Boyle is a lot better than cousin BOBO and the dancing chimp circus that won. I have never seen a group of hoodrats yet that did not think they could dance or sing. I am stunned at the comments in this thread. Is this a 1st Amendment issue? Or is the negative reaction about taste? Because if it is the latter reason, then I am pretty sure the aforementioned reason trumps it ...

Nevertheless, it is incredibly interesting how so many people have come to the "defense" of Ms. Boyle.

I am intrigued by the fact that people are defending someone that inserted herself into the Public Arena. How is this not going to happen in a society with a free-and-open media? Is the expectation that Boyle's apparent depression/anxiety should be an off-limits topic for discussion? And for comedians?

I really want someone to answer this, so please, please help me out! (I'll be keeping one eye on this page all day ... )

Oh, and where is the criticism of the producers of Britain's Got Talent? They sent an emotionally-unstable person up on stage to sell tea and crumpets.

If I cared about Boyle one iota, which I don't, that's where I'd be focusing my wrath. But that's just little ole me ...
