One of the most anachronistic parts of the new Star Trek film is seeing the characters use those ridiculous communicators - I mean, hell, we've got better technology than that now, called bluetooth headsets. But I guess as Star Trek is pretty cool now, it sort of makes you want a communicator anyway.
Luckily someone - probably a man who lives with his parents - has developed an iPhone app that will mimic the communicator - and will actually make calls.

yeah because we know that bluetooth and cellphones work without full sattelite coverage and are just magical talk anywhere boxes, star trek communicator ftw.
