Scientists Now Able To Control Single Particle of Light

Image...
A team of physicists and engineers at Bristol University has demonstrated exquisite control of single particles of light — photons — on a silicon chip to make a major advance towards long-sought-after quantum technologies, including super-powerful quantum computers and ultra-precise measurements.

Forget about all the sciencey stuff, imagine if they could transfer this to parties and raves. Single particles of coloured light getting thrown around left and centre. That'd be ace.

My knowledge is limited to how photons energize and facilitate electron transfer during photosynthesis, however I find the physical properties of photons is kind of mind boggling in itself. Massless particles traveling in varying wavelengths at the speed of light. I think my head will explode if I try to comprehend anything else.

Second the party and rave idea, very cool.

Does this mean they've collapsed the wave functions of single photons and rendered them 4-dimensional? Wonder what Heisenberg would say.
