Seattle, WA -- A 35 year old transexual women was brutally attacked at a bus stop by several boys. A 13 year old boy was caught by police after witnesses saw him get onto a bus after the attack. Several witnesses saw the boys kick the women and call her homophobic names. The King county prosecutors office is calling this a hate motivated crime and may use a new hate crimes law to prosecute the boys. Three other boys are still at large. The victim is transitioning from male to female. Sometime she wears a skirt. She believes this is the reason she was attacked.

On another note - it's rather interesting how such controversial stories dredge up the usual types who will use this story to trumpet their own socio-political agenda.
You've got those using this story to push an anti-liberal viewpoint, an anti-christian viewpoint, an anti-gay viewpoint, an anti-black viewpoint, a pro-gay viewpoint, a viewpoint about masculinity. And there's the troll viewpoint by panzer who is just all over the place doing what trolls do best.
If this becomes major news, we'll probably see the usual suspects champion certain aspects of the story. Rush and Coulter will fixate on the alleged solicitation while Air AMerica types will focus on the hate crime side.
And the reality of it might be that the kids just wanted to steal a backpack or see if they could take down what they perceived as an easy target for bragging rights. Or maybe they responded violently to sexual solicitation. Who knows? But it won't stop people from drawing their own conclusions and pushing forward their socio-political agenda.

Waitaminute, don't fry 'em before they had their day in court, my PC vigilantes! We do have a justice system still.
And look what was conveniently left out in all this posturing and hand wringing:
-----------------------------------------------------
The boy claimed he didn't bother the victim until she tried soliciting him for sex.
------------------------------------------------------Now this could easily be a lie or not - that's for the court to decide not a pack of biased bloggers before all the facts have come out.
Had this been a "straight" guy, the boys might be called heroes for taking down a pedophile pervert even if it were a lie. The doubt would have been against the adult.
You might be making a martyr out of a perv. Transgender people are people too you know - ie some of them are as just as bad or good as anyone else in society regardless of their sexual orientation/gender.
It does seem strange that 13 year olds would attack someone older themselves just out of homophobia. Had they been in their late teens or 20s I could see them doing so because they have the size, strength, and confidence to do so.
However they could also just be street thugs at the beginning of their short life of teen crime and they saw the victim as an easy target - someone older who they could take down.
Until the facts clear some of this fog, this story could go either way.

You want to try to say/prove that Christians would not do bad things - mainly because you call yourself a Christian.
Whenever a Christian acts out (like assassinates a doctor, beats up a queer, etc.) the other Christians immediately say, "oh that one, he wasn't Christian" such self serving hypocrisy and self deception is nauseating.

Somewhere along the line these boys were given the wrong message about gay and transgendered people.
For some reason, on some level, these kids got the message that this was an OK thing to do.
There is a deeper problem on a societal level: those nooks and crannies of society where homophobia and hate is allowed to breathe and grow.
Of course organized religion is often a hot house for hate and homophobia.

I keep hearing you guys say that all this hate comes from organized religion or Christians in general.
I have been attending church all of my life and have never heard a hatred sermon.
I have only heard love and respect for our fellow man.
Now I agree that Rev White of Obamas church did preach hate for the white man, but I have never heard hate preached or tolerated in any church I attended and I’m Pentecostal.
Where do you get the idea that Christians hate . Not agreeing with a destructive or sinful lifestyle is not hate.

On a broad, superficial level Christianity teaches that anyone who does not submit to the teaching is a lost soul, a fool, damned, etc. The atheist and free thinker is dangerous and some one to be despised, pitied and converted.
In particular, any church that teaches homosexuality is a sin is teaching homophobia and hate, but I think you know this already.
Either you are so far into the hatred that you can no longer be objective, or your question is actually some what insincere; my intuition says the latter.

You said that.
On a broad, superficial level Christianity teaches that anyone who does not submit to the teaching is a lost soul, a fool, damned, etc. The atheist and free thinker is dangerous and some one to be despised, pitied and converted.
In particular, any church that teaches homosexuality is a sin is teaching homophobia and hate, but I think you know this already.Christ invites you to Live and have eternal life. Submitting to teaching will not save you, only accepting and knowing Christ will result in salvation.
If you do not believe in God then why are you offended if God has rejected you.
I have never heard a Christian refer to a non believer as a fool or damned. Have you been called a fool?
You are the one calling Christians ignorant, repugnant, superstitious, nonsensical and evil.
I have not seen a Christian refer to you in these terms.
Why would a Christian consider an atheist dangerous? What is dangerous? ,
I know many Christians and I no of not one that despises or pities a non-believer.
No man, Christian or otherwise can convert someone to Christianity. God must draw you to Christ. God chooses those he deems worthy of salvation, and then leads them to knowledge of salvation through the Holy Spirit.
These accusations you make regarding what Christians believe and think of non-believers have no bases of fact. Can you provide any statements that a true Christian has said to you along the lines you claim above?
Homosexuality is only a sin for a Christian. Teaching fellow Christians to live a life acceptable to God does not imply hate for non-believers.
Unimatrix0 read your own words . Do you hate God and anyone he calls to Christ? If so, you may want to search your soul and ask, why am I not worthy of Gods invitation to Life? - 8 months ago

If someone beats up another person it has to be religiously motivated and not related to the beatee's wallet/purse or what the beatee said about your momma or that the beater just wanted to feel better about themselves by beating someone up.
Religion is responsible for 99.99% of everything that's wrong in the world. The other .01% is not accepting this fact.

Again I doubt your sincerity, but if you really did not know, here are just a few verses condemning the unbeliever:
They are all antichrists.
"For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist." -- 2 John 7They should be shunned. Neither marry nor be friends with them.
"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? ... Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord." -- 2 Cor.6:14-17They should be killed.
"If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you ... Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die." -- Dt.13:6-10There is no god to hate gen468, just weak minded fools to pity - and you do have my pity, friend.

You say you accept that there are non-believers, but you paradoxically don't believe that they exist. I say this because you allow unimatrix to be a non-believer but then say that uni has to ask "why am I not worthy of Gods invitation to Life?" That assumes that God exists and that the problem is unimatrix for not believing in what you believe, rather than accepting uni's view to be legitimate.

Hatred starts at home and today is promoted freely on religious channels and radio and TV. The Moral Majority or Minority (Jerry bootlegger Falwell) whichever it was, promoted hate and was politically active and should have lost his tax exempt status 40 years ago. The success of some people like rush Limbaugh have become filthy rich promoting hatred among Amercians. Is political hatred condoned merely as political mudslinging or is it justified to incite another Civil Way in Ammerica? I think either way it is dangerous.

I don't have a problem expanding a hate-crime law to include transgender persons, but the law hinges on the intent of the offender, not the status/situation of the victim. Based on the facts in the story link, the law is triggered because the thugs thought the victim was gay. The law would also have been triggered if they didn't care about her sexual orientation, but beat her because they thought she was Jewish.
That being said, if the thugs beat her because they thought she was transgendered, then under the current law no hate crime would have occurred.
You have pointed out a weakness in hate crime laws in that someone can escape prosecution for a hate crime by simply denying their real motivation for being intolerant and violent regardless of how many types of people are given protection.
