Bizarre Christian Billboard Compares Atheism To Murder?

Image...
A Christian apologetics group “Answers in Genesis” unveils controversial billboards to challenge evolution and atheism.

Here we go with the shock advertising again. How does this advertisement strike you - as valid or infuriating?

Here’s how Answers in Genesis describes themselves:

An apologetics (i.e., Christianity-defending) ministry, dedicated to enabling Christians to defend their faith and to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ effectively…we also desire to train others to develop a biblical worldview, and seek to expose the bankruptcy of evolutionary ideas, and its bedfellow, a “millions of years old” earth (and even older universe).

Apparently, AIG doesn’t seem to be the only one sprinkling such wonderful Christian sentiment around the US. Dangerous Talk has compiled, and asks people to continue sending in pictures, of the worst Christian AND Atheist billboards around the country.

Personally, I can’t believe they are implying that non-believers, or to whom God “doesn’t matter,” are going to take a gun and shoot someone in the face.

Striking yes; thoughtful, absolutely not.

Although supposedly their beef is with evolution, I don’t see how that point is conveyed with this picture. So, according to them, believing what Darwin had to say means a person is lawless and will go on a killing rampage?

I’m honestly surprised they didn’t put an African-American or Middle Eastern child on there. But I guess they know it would completely show their prejudices. With a white kid, they can get away with “anyone can be lawless and moral-free who doesn’t believe in God.”

Equal opportunity to be a murderer, I guess.

Have they been watching the news? Apparently they do not realize that the ones doing the shooting lately ARE THE ONES THAT BELIEVE IN GOD.

what a bunch of shit. I'd say this is pretty insulting, but the comparison is just so.....mind-numbingly STUPID that it just makes me giggle and roll my eyes. Oh, you silly Christians, there you go again, demonizing those that don't share your beliefs. What a shocker.

so they're basically trying to say that anyone who isn't christian is immoral. this is the thing i hate the most about religion. always "holier than thou." always thinking we can't possibly function without a deity in our lives.

edit: also as a one-time christian who is now a non-believer i feel i take life more seriously now than i EVER did before. so there will be no shooting people for me

and Christianity is the champion of life..... right.... how many people have been killed due to the righteous heart of Christians in the past? and continues even today.

    Ok some fundamental flaws...

    1) A worshipper can validate taking a life in the name of God... man that one is obvious. Who's to say that kid isn't a christian pointing a gun at a non-believer?

    2) A murderer can ask God's forgiveness, which could enable a rational person to commit a sin knowing they will beg forgiveness. I hear that in this case a the sinner cannot be forgiven for their request to be forgiven is insincere, but what if it later becomes sincere? Only God would know...

    3) Believing that we are alone, a non-believer knows that they have to live with themselves and their actions. Who's moral compass would you follow, your own or that of an ancient, many times translated tome?

    4) If you have that bloodlust in you, then God made you that way... and in his eyes we are all God's children... whereas society will have you incarcerated or sent to fight for your country, either way you get bred out of existence... oh no wait, there's no such thing as evolution!

Just because I don't particularly give shit about my neighbors, doesn't mean i want to meticulously tie their cat in a burlap sack and toss it down a hand dug well of lighter fluid.

Good stuff; at once funny and pathetic.

I do feel sorry for people who can not or will not imagine a world with out God. It may be that such people are simply inferior in intellect, will, or a combination of the two.

This AIG is just dillusional as the corporate AIG. State facts and data if you're going to the trouble and expense to post a billboard.

exactly how did this hypothetical child get a handgun? this could just as easily be a pro-gun-regulation billboard.

and why would a christian organization be looking for answers in genesis? shouldn't they be looking at the teachings of Christ in the new testament?

I THOUGHT christianity was supposed to be based on the teachings of Jesus...

By now most of you on here know how I feel about religion, so this doesn't surprise me...any organization that requires you to pretend like you are eating someones flesh and drinking his blood weekly to be a member in good standing should give you some insight as to their thinking...it's a culture of death and suffering...
Just a side note here, the cross as used in crucifixion was one of the devises used for capital punishment back in those days...if the Romans had discovered electricity and had used electric chairs for executions I wonder, would people be walking around with little electric chairs hanging from their necks...or giant electric chairs on top of buildings used as churches?...I find their rituals and symbols just a bit on the grim side.

HA! Does God not matter to them? They kill people for not believing God, well their God.
And don't Atheist just laugh at this picture and say, "No I don't matter to god because their isn't one?"
So many contradiction in this billboard, hmmm....just like the Bible.

The entire question is stupid. "If god doesn't matter to him, do you?"

How about all the people who care only for their god and getting into heaven and (dare I say it) their Jesus points, and not for the rest of humanity? How about their treatment of animals, does that not matter? (the best judge of character is how one treats his inferiors, correct?)

The entire thought process -- or lack thereof -- invalidates any point an extremist thinks they have.

What on earth is the point of being as virulently hateful as possible? So you get exposure -- so what?

The only exposure you're going to get is from inhuman dirbags whose only purpose in life is to sow chaos, discord, and apathy toward the exact thing you're trying to say.

This entire campaign, both sides of it, is inexcusably useless and makes it far less likely that anyone with any amount of the ability to think and reason for themselves, no matter which side of the debate they happen to be on, would ever endorse, let alone propagate.

The fact that this abomination will still resonate in the minds of anyone at all is worst of all.

I don't know, maybe we should ask him?

God seems to matter to Al Quida, and the KKK.
