This Is Gonna Sound A Bit Gay

Coinciding with the Pride celebrations across the UK over the summer, This Is Gonna Sound A Bit Gay is a special documentary that celebrate sexual identity and provide an insight into gay rights in 21st Century Britain. Now that gay people have more or less equal civil rights, how have our attitudes towards homosexuality changed? Have the social barriers fallen or does prejudice and division still stand?

Cameras follow Current TV's host Graeme Smith as he confronts his past, examines events in his own life and looks at choices and compromises we have to consider when coming to terms with our sexuality. Along the way, his mum offers her own candid perspective as do some of the nation's foremost experts in sexuality and civil rights activists.
Current's community of film makers have contributed their short crowd-sourced documentaries to share their experiences and we feature them in the show. One short film we feature is called Sex and Love on Gaydar which brings us an insight into the lives of some of the men hooking up on the online dating and social networkin site Gaydar.co.uk

    • Ok im a gay guy and I watched this and thought yeah good film but that lgbt woman's view on "Internalised homophobia" was shocking ! How is saying "gay men have more sex than straight men" how how how is that in anyway homophobia theres nothing at all derogatory about that statement unless u find having sex a bad thing ! I think that someone with such bizarre views on homophobia should not be around gay youths, i just find it crazy ! Good film though ! just left me feeling a bit mad lol good work Graeme

    • ‘Internalised homophobia’ can be a serious mental health issue I often find myself facing. In my experience I have never silenced the internal voice inside of me which says being gay is wrong. I chose to ignore it, try to reason with it, try to educate myself , but no success. ‘Internalised homophobia’ for me is so deep rooted there is nothing anyone can do about it; I just have to live with it. I wonder if there are other young gay people who feel the same.

    • I watched this last night - the first time i've actually caught this Current TV channel - Thought it was a wonderful documentary - very well thought through - some light hearted monents mixed with some serious and sometimes thought provoking issues.

      As a 35y/o gay man it's been along time since i had to really deal with issues about coming out and as I'm settled into my 'gay' life now I rarely give my sexuality particular tthought which was just the focus of this programme - do we need to focus on sexuality in this day and age?

      Great documenary all round and a lovely presenter - look forward to more on this and other subjects.

      Oh and PS - pretty gorgeous presenter too (couldn't leave that out!).
