Watchmen Director's Cut Will Hit Theaters on July 17th

Image...
This isn't an official announcement (I don't know why Warner Brothers hasn't made one yet), but our good friend Frosty over at Collider talked with Zack Snyder himself today and got re-confirmation that the extended Director's Cut of Watchmen will indeed be officially hitting theaters on July 17th, the weekend before Comic-Con. He confirmed that it will only show for one weekend in one theater in only Los Angeles, Dallas, Minneapolis, and New York City. So if you live in one of those four cities, you'll want to make sure you buy your tickets in advance for this re-release. I know I'm already planning to be there!

Boo! I'm nowhere near any of those places. Hopefully there will be a director's cut DVD so I won't hate the movie as much as I did.

The only good thing about this movie was Rorschach. I doubt an extended version is going to do much to help the overwhelming suck.

Dang, missed opportunity. I would love to see this in a second run. If its nominated for an Oscar or Golden Globe Kerasotes is likely to pick it up.

the weekend BEFORE Comic-Con?! WTF?! I'll actually be down in the LA area but not the weekend before. LAME!

Personally I really want to see the directors cut because they cut out so much from the movie to not only make it shorter but to appeal to those who were familiar with the novel. As a fan of the novel I cannot wait to see the movie fit more truly to the comic. I liked the movie and felt that they did a really good job on a lot of it, but many parts were just altered or shortened too much for my taste.

So when is it going to be on DVD?

I am no where near any of those cities...

It'll be on DVD in the middle of July. If you're interested in seeing it, save your money and buy/rent that instead.

As for the haters of the flick, you must not have liked the novel much, either - it was virtually the same, except for the ending (about which I have mixed feelings, admittedly).

Nothing short of another whole movie could save this complete waste of film. This was a complete waste of my time and no amount of blue penis can change that.

Dudes, seriously....WTF was "cut" for the novel that should have been in the 3hr film?

That's like bitching that the movie Moby Dick (take your pick on which one) wasn't a page for page remake of the novel.

That's because the novel of Moby Dick included dozens and dozens of pages just talking about the history of whaling. Not very interesting material for a movie, though it worked great in the book.

The Watchmen is a lot like that.

I read the graphic novel....and as far as I can see they left almost NOTHING out of the movie (except for the long written sections and that damn pirate story which I thought was weak to begin with)

This might be one of the worst Comic book movies to hit theaters in a long time. No action, lame characters and gay outfits just about sums it up. Oh and Rorschach is a complete rip off of The Question from the DC Universe, who is waaaay more interesting. Save your money and go see Bruno instead!!!
