At 50, everyone has the face he deserves.

Big Brother is watching you.

All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.

All political thinking for years past has been vitiated in the same way. People can foresee the future only when it coincides with their own wishes, and the most grossly obvious facts can be ignored when they are unwelcome.

A tragic situation exists precisely when virtue does not triumph but when it is still felt that man is nobler than the forces which destroy him.

The last quote brought to mind one simple Iranian observation. Our culture has been inundated with images of effigy burnings of presidents (haven't seen one of Obama yet), flag burnings, anti-American chantings...what would have happened to any Iranian with the balls to have waved "Old Glory" made in green and white...A vision worth seeing.
I sometimes wonder what the legality of foreign rioting and "immigration reform" if such activity was conducted under the shadow of our flag as well as the Iranian flag...Such an image would be hard to deal with. What would you do? Try to help? Naw...
I was in Panama when the deposed Shah of Iran ended up on Contadora Island. You know what did that bastard in? His secret police and ultimate power directed at his political enemies. You know what is going to do the present Iranian government in? Secret police and ultimate power directed at political enemies.
This revolution is going to be very cool and smooth. Go CIA! Keep your Mosques under control will you? Three years max!

The beauty of that last quote is it could be used by both Mother Teresa and Adolf Hitler. I think it may also be the first commandment of the average sociopath on death row. Lastly, the mantra of any female in any healthy marriage--when you ask, "Did you just say something?"
I have my own couch. An eight foot long, real leather beauty--in forest green...close to a refrigerator. It is the only time the dog gets to use it--when only the two of us are in the room. All night long, when the coast is clear he jumps up and enjoys real dog freedom. Dogs like late night snacks as well--especially guacamole on lime chips.
    Will I ever learn.
Cy, you are a trouble maker.

#4 works in reverse also: people learn from the past only what fits their "cognitive mapping." Fortunately, history is a story. It can be read (selectively, of course) and interpreted in such a way as to support any current position. Example? Conservative version of what happened during FDR's presidency.

BTW, very few Americans (including those pontificating via the media) remember Iran's history over the past, say, 80 years. But Iranians do, and so do lots of other folks in the Middle East. Sheesh! You can't either select from or reinterpret it if you haven't a clue about at least its most salient elements.
