Poetry From Iran, One Tweet At A Time

Persians are known for their poetry. So it is not surprising that following Iran's disputed elections, many Iranians have tweeted poetically. Meet 26-year-old Parham Baghestani, whose tweets range from the mundane to the spiritual.

    poetry by Rumi

    O you who've gone on pilgrimage -
where are you, where, oh where?
    Here, here is the Beloved!
Oh come now, come, oh come!
Your friend, he is your neighbor,
he is next to your wall -
You, erring in the desert -
what air of love is this?
    If you'd see the Beloved's
    form without any form -
You are the house, the master,
You are the Kaaba, you! . . .
Where is a bunch of roses,
if you would be this garden?
    Where, one soul's pearly essence
when you're the Sea of God?
That's true - and yet your troubles
may turn to treasures rich -
How sad that you yourself veil
    the treasure that is yours!

    Come, come, whoever you are.
    Wonderer, worshipper, lover of leaving.
    It doesn't matter.
Ours is not a caravan of despair.
Come, even if you have broken your vow
    a thousand times
    Come, yet again, come, come.

Rumi is one of my favorites . There is more wisdom in poetry , than in all the religions of the world . Simply because poets love freedom and despise domination . So they speak truth from the heart .

Meanwhile, let's remember what Mossadeq said 46 years ago: "No nation goes anywhere under the shadow of dictatorship."

Rumi's too long for twittering. Baghestani's haiku-like impressions are much more efficient and effective just now.

this is an example of why the opposition failed. Spirituality and Poetry have little place when in a fight with a totalitarian regime.

Successful Revolution requires analog practices. Hard ruthless men and Guns. the poets can come later to make sense of it all.

I believe it was an ancient Greek poet , named Solan , who helped form , the first variation of a democratic republic .

Poets are the presenters of the dream. Poets do have a place in revolution. Bob Dylan a poet, Robert Burns etc.etc. etc.
    I only
    truly
    live
    inside my
    mind
    the
    only container
    of
    my
    soul self.

and how about samizdat------please-no poetry-no life.
